One of my friends that comes over and is also one of the the main person in the O&J Productions crew (http://ojproductions.net my site) Always goes," we should get wasted tonight". I usually say why don't we make another video/movie. My friend who used to be a chain smoker quit after he started playing music because he said he was just bored before. Now we jam and he has gotten really good because everytime he is bored he plays the guitar instead of smoking.
Maybe its just me, but i'm not into getting drunk and feeling like poop (can't say the "S" word) in the morning when i could be writing music for my band, working on my site, and/or writing and filming movies.
but, drinking for fun is ok, ill do it when i get older, but stupid drunks that sit there and take down 2 bottles of vodka or rum in an hour are idiots
Also i will never smoke because it is just horrible for you. Cancer, coughing, get old way fast. Its just not good.
In social settings, alcohol makes the person feel more relaxed. It gives the feeling of a stimulant (puts people in this europhoric state) when it really is in fact a depressant.
Regardless, alcohol is a drug and like all drugs, can be addictive.
I have nothing against drinking. Heck, I drink a few every now and then myself. What I strongly oppose is irresponsible drinking and I believe that this is the main reason why people get drunk.
For a lot of people, having a drink or two at a party can really make conversing easier. It makes them more relaxed and less tense. But it is also during these 'social events' where people are most proned to getting drunk. Just a few quick examples:
-the person has already had a few too many drinks. they lose count of how many they have consumed. they keep drinking.
-dares from friends to have another
-birthday and other parties
-holidays and festivities
From personal experience, drinking plays a huge part in the university student's life. Most of the time students get drunk are usually times when they are among friends (or at least with somebody else). The whole, "It's Thursday! Let's get sloshed!" kind of vibe results from students wanting to take a break from their studies, to go out and have a good time. This in my opinion, is an absolutely horrible and irresponsible mentality.
By all means, have fun! But fun doesn't need to come with a hangover the next morning.
For people who drink just for the sake of getting drunk, there must be something wrong with their lives e.g. lack of motivation, no self-esteem, loss of personal integrity, depression... A lot of people think that drinking will take the pain away but in truth, it only adds more salt to the wound.
It might be quite possible for someone who enjoys one night a week getting drunk with friends in a tight knit social group to be asking "what is the reason some people spend their spare time writing music for a band, working on a website, etc., when they could be out on the town with their pals, and having a good time?"
Just my take on the subject.

... or swearing on a regular basis.lol i swear a lot, but i can stop it when i need to its not adictive for me anyway. In response to others i se that most of yu agree with me that it is being just dumb to want to just go get drunk for no reason. No party or anything, but just to get drunk.
Besides, alcohol, as any other drug, can help creativity. I´m not making an apologise of drinking alcohol but I have to admit that sometimes you get through some deep thoughts when you are drunk. Maybe because you get free of society taboos.
The only bad thin about alcohol it´s the awful sensation the next day... but I know persons that hardly ever suffer from it.

i liked that post and have drank for all the above reasons including the things that were wrong with me at the time. you left one out though. sometimes i find myself drinking for others which i don't use as an excuse to drink sometimes. let me explain. i've been where others are where there is a problem in their lives and they want to drink. i'm a people person and love hearing peoples problems and talking to those going through a hard time. why i love bars. there's an endless supply of those people in there. when you drink with them, they trust you more and when they trust you more, they will talk to you more. that's when youhave an easy in to create a positive impact in their life. it's through something negative like drinking, BUT they would be drinking anyway.....and being me, i like to try to make something postive out of a negative environment or situation.
also now, i like getting drunk sometimes. not because i have something wrong going on in my life with the situations you listed, but because it's a different feeling when sober and it's easier sometimes to just act goofy and silly or just experience this alternate reality.
aside from your post, i liked the first post even though it was a bit one sided, surely people don't NEED to drink or get drunk as people don't need to smoke or eat greasy foods or go rock climbimg. life is a risk though but more than that, if you limit yourself to only those things that are most healthy, you limit your experiences in life...and it's all realitive and questionable. it's what's most important to that one person how he wants to live, knowing who he is.
it's important not to judge or question people when they are not doing anything unethical and are living their lives with good morals and values. everyone is different so others do not need to understand how others think or act
With these oaks it is like i did well at something lets get pissed or i did badly at something lets get pissed you or i have nothing to do lets get pissed ....................you see where i'm going with this it is just a case of lets get pissed end of story. but it is their and there body so if they want to do that well good luck to them. I personally can't see the appeal you waste a whole lot of money that night to buy all the booze then there is a good chance you don't remember what you did anyway and then the next morning you feel like *BLEEP* wow that sounds just AWESOME.
But to be honest i think it is more a case of being sheep !! my friends are doing everyone else is doing it lets all do it.
I would love to hear from someone who does this every single weekend or evening or whatever why they do it. What the reason is ?? i guarentee you most of them if not all of them would not be able to tell yo uwhy and if they could it would be this really stupid reasons that would make no sense what so ever !!!!!!!!!!
It must be a really pointless life if that is all you can or want to do when ever you have some free time !!
I have some friends that will get drunk every weekend, and want me to come over to party. Others get drunk weekdays too, just because you can. I even have friends that have asked me things like "so, you getting drunk for your birthday?" and when I say no, they are like "ah... that sucks man."
I just don't get it. I rarely drink... and when I do, sure it can be fun, but the hangover the next day and all isn't that wonderful... My question to all those "I drink four nights a week" people... doesn't it get boring? I mean, if you do something so often, then doesn't it just lose it's appeal? Much like drinking did when you became legal. It's just not as fun once it's not breaking the law lol...
Folks are too caught up in what other people think of them that , wheter they realize it or not. or admit it they are caught up in peer pressure.
And Peer pressure can be argued some say no way that doesnt happen it doesnt exsist .. well believe itor not its there. wheter you see it or not..
Pressure comes in any and many forms..
thats why i think people get drunk to just do it.. maybe they need to noticed. and they chose to get drunk infront of their buddies. so everyone can talk about them..
A buddy of mine would do it all the time why just becasue he liked hearing how he got wasted at someone sparty or house. He said it was his way of building a cool rep. which is plain garbage.. He really thought he was something cool. hed show up and ofcourse his first line was.. man i dont remember anything last night i got really wasted and sure enough people that werent even there were like Yeah man i heard about you and that you was striping thenyou pucked on so and so.. and blah blah blah.. and i swear he would get like the biggest head thinking he was really cool. but to me he was still just an idiot trying to be or act popular.. in this case he has gone completely the wrong direction
No point in blaming it all on peer pressure or image, its your choice, but i feel it relaxes me as i'm shy, and i have more fun
but dont just do it for the hell of it
1. its a waste of money
2. you really arnt that cool
most people do it to fit in and be "cool" but all it really does is mess with your brian and can get you into alot of trouble...
1. Don't get totally wasted (1 or 2 drinks at most).
2. Come home sober so I don't get in trouble. (I'm underage).
However once I start drinking I start just not caring what is happening in my life and let myself loose. I do some pretty stupid things which I won't speak of because they are that stupid, lol. Anyways yeah, I drink to let myself loose and forget about things.

The Reason Why People Get Drunk?
I can't be a judge on what is irresponsible drinking and what isn't, I have little to compare to.
My brother and his friend drink each week, one time they got a case of Mike's hard lemonade and a bottle of vodka, his friend stripped halfway down to his drawers(Underpants) and went around acting stupid, and there are kids living on the second floor of this house, my brother had to control him at least once per drinking session, and I had to walk out of my room and tell them to ease up too, but they eased only slightly(and not enough to keep them from being stupid) when I got REALLY angry at them.
And to add onto that, his partner has lived such a sheltered life that anything out of the ordinary(from her point of view) throws everything into chaos. Would the story I just mentioned count as irresponsible drinking on my brother's part?

im not sure whats the feeling of getting drunk.
and smoking, i just basicaly hates the smell=) :fart:
It's a deep issue that strikes at the way society is set up, the differences in class and wealth levels in an area.
Especially where I live, Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England, there's so many night clubs and bars. Now don't get me wrong, I like the odd drink and going out socializing with my friends and all but the sheer volume of places to go and engage in what is basically socially acceptable drug taking is mind boggling.
And lets face it: Alcohol is a drug.
That goes part of the way in explaining why people do it excess. Because drugs are addictive. It's like people who eat too fast and don't chew - they want the serotonin high that you get by overloading your taste buds with a large surface area of... flavour. But it's not like you could ever ban it as that invents a whole different set of problems. Look at what happened with prohibition in America.
Another issue about where I live is that it's not as rich as the South, people generally earn less here yet work the same amount of hours. People want a release from the droning tedium of a 9-5 and instead of relaxing by say... exercising or taking part in a hobby, they drink.
Why do they favour it over some other sort of activity?
Because drinking is such an easy option and it's something that can be glossed over by the sheer factor/volumes of companies slapping brands on bottles, flavouring the damn stuff. It's so readily available and easy to do. It's an activity ingrained at the root of non-career based activity [especially] in English society. We're brought up and spoon fed the association of release with the mere act of drinking.
The effects of alcohol too make it something for everyone. It's one of the few drugs that allow you to enhance your mood in the way you'd like. If you're down and want to be happy, drinking allows you to find happiness. If you're angry and want to exacerbate the feelings of anger alcohol allows you do that too.
Some people would say, if alcoholic drinks are drunk responsibly though it's good for loosening up. Be that as it may, you're never in control with alcohol or any drug. Say what you want - you are taking a drug to enhance your state of mind. That suggests what?
You're uptight, you can't relax?
Surely there's some way of achieving what you're after without having to drink?
By the way if I seem anti-drinking here I'm not deliberately trying to - though I do find the act of people getting *BLEEP*-faced a bit stupid to be honest. I'm a stinking hypocrite at the end of the day as I haven't quit.
On the matter of quitting though. Where I live, especially in a group of lads. If someone stops drinking people aren't so much all weird about it but you can see the gears turning in their head as if they're thinking 'not drinking, some kinda puff?' and all that.
Drinking to get drunk is stupid no matter what your reason. It's not cool, and you don't need it to have fun. If you TRULY like the taste of an alcoholic beverage, drink it socially and that's fine. I have no problem with that. But if you are drinking something BECAUSE it's alcoholic for those stupid reasons, I think you are the dumbest person alive. I hate people that do that.
