When I want to escape where I am at, relax, and envision myself sitting in a forest or sitting in a large field of flowers I generally turn to = Classical & New Age (Yoyo Ma as a player, Bach, Vivaldi, Carol Commune).
On Fridays on my way home from work, I know that the work week is over and excited about the weekend I pump = Techno, Trance, D&B, etc. (Mars & mystre is one of my faves)
When my husband is away for more than two days or so, I obviously will listen to some of our love songs = R&B, Pop (Savage Garden, Silk, Boyz2men, sade, etc).
And there are so many other times in my life that I will listen to other different things like kids songs because I have a 10 month old son and a 2 year old nephew. But I think that most of the time, I enjoy listening to CLASSICAL and NEW AGE because it calms me down and allows me to think and let my mind wonder to a place that is like a dream. Hard to explain, but sometimes I will listen to a nice piano piece that will make me cry because I am seeing myself in a different situation.
SO.....how does music make you feel and where does it take you?
But if I'm in a bad mood I go for more agressive music (Nirvana, Apartment 26, Kid Rock, ed)
If I want to relax I go for Joe Satriani ed,
Further I listen to the more comen stuff like U2, Queen, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, Coldplay. I also like to look for new stuff (for me new) De La Sole, Razorlight, the Killers and so on and the RHCP.
I alwaise listen to music and I can go on like this
If its a sunny day i might go out driving listening to some Less than jake, BECK, Queens of the stone age or general "sunny day" music.
if its rainy, i mite listen to Marlyn manson, Meshugga, slipknot, killswitch engage or sutmhin.
Altho prodigy is allllllllllll ways good for dirivng
I lsiten to music to reflect my current mood. If i'm angry i will lsiten to sumthin hardcore, if i'm ina good mood i'll listen to happy and mellow stuff.
i have a huge varitey of music i like,
i was lsitening to rammstein a sec ago, (german industrial), but now i'm lsitening to Less Than jake (Ska punk)
*sits down and beckons all to join her in the circle around the bonfires*
Since I am *only* 21, this may sound odd LOL.. I mainly listen to music from the late 70's, 80's and early 90's. My prefered groups are Fleetwood Mac, Europe, Whitesnake, oh and so many more that I just can't list here.
Depending on my mood I switch music, for example, I also love HIM, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Inkubus Sukkubus, My DYing Bride, Crüxshadows.. For mellow, relaxing moments Loreena McKennit plays through my speakers, or Zen Garden... It all depends..
I only hate a few types of music, rap, polka, and a few more LOL I can easily listen to classical, opera, instrumental. It just really depends on my mood.
If I jump to the depressed side, I am most likely to be listening to Crüxshadows and My Dying Bride, even though I can listen to that music while feeling ok LOL BUt when I am down, it's all I listen to.
also kylie,madona,vaneesa mae.
also sometimes i listen to enigma and some ambient stuff i get into that mood.
i usually love club stuff and trust me there is nothing like club stuff.it is awesome genre in music.though hip hop is good to hear but it is sometime quite harsh to ears.
anyaway i made all my views clear in this reply hussh..
For mellowing out, I think Jack Johnson's music does nicely (outside of classical music).
Other times I listen to Depeche Mode, Blur, Pet Shop Boys and Garbage for music that'll make me active. As for my fav bands from Canada - Crash Test Dummies, The Tea Party and Barenaked Ladies are among the top of my list.
As for Japanese pop/rock, I listen to a lot of Mr. Children, globe and Hikaru Utada these days - in addition to music from Orange Range and Ken Hirai.
Fu* the Police,ect.
Thats what i listen too, Or songs like Akon.
Thanks,
FFC Webmaster,
Asad Haider.
Music has a big impact on society and people as individuals, different moods = different genres...
my favourite genre is hip hop, Tupac Shakur, Tha Outlawz etc...
Well it depends on my mood. If I am tired or sad well only very melow stuff will do, if I am driving and some of my favorite rock tunes come up, I will have a tendency to open the window and speed a little without noticing it, king of the world for a couple of minutes kind of attitude.

When I'm feeling all "I'm-on-a-sugar-high" spunky/happy, I listen to ska. (Five Iron Frenzy, OC Supertones)
When I'm depressed, I listen to emo-ish stuff. (Cool Hand Luke- they are kind of melancholy but hopeful at the same time)
When I want to be alone, I turn on some hardcore- nobody dares come in my room with that stuff on! lol. (Project 86, Haste the Day, Underoath, etc)
For everything else, there's Relient K!
BTW... Lincoln Park is the Shiznit!
When i'm love-struck there's nothing like Sinatra.
When i'm in a bad mood and want to feel better "The Get Up Kids" are great
When I'm in a bad mood and want to just sit in that feeling "Dashboard Confessionals"
Lets say i'm just feelin good n wanna rock out I'll mostly listen to harder punk/screamo stuff like 'coheed and cambra',underoath,Zao, My Chemical Romance and such.
Music is so good eh?
Oh and a great relax and enjoy life band is Rilo Kiley (specifically their latest album More Adventurous"
Mainly I listen to music for the lyrics rather then the melodies, which is probably why I listen to alot of Hip-Hop/Gangsta Rap like Eminem; it's always fun to hear what he is going to say next!
I like Tupac for his intellectual depth -- you just have to listen to what he says and you'll find he is sincere, not just another gangsta..
But mostly, I would have to say Alternative gives me the most creative thoughts, because nothing is ever direct and you have to warp the ideas in your mind to understand the meaning (or what you think is the meaning).
Japanese rock and pop is good when hyper >D and techno.
I also like gothic rock too and medieval music.
I listen mainly alternative rock but I like lots of genres... in fact, except the highly commercial pop and r´n´b, and irrelevant dance-oriented techno, I think I like or at least respect everything.
Music has a strong influence in me... a song from Weezer can make me happy when I´m sad, one from Sepultura can awake me when I´m tired, one from Stooges can give me strength, one from Nirvana can make me feel nostalgic and one from Nick Cave can make me think... I love songs that make me think. I have records for different ocassions, you know. For a rainy cold day at home in winter, for example Beck´s Sea Change, for a sunday morning whatever from the first era of the Ramones, for a depressed time, Alice In Chains´ Dirt, for a soft drug session Welcome to the Sky Valley of Kyuss, for a little paranoia Confussion is Sex of Sonic Youth, etc.
As the 90% of the music that I hear is in english, it´s also good for me because it helps me to learn the language further, although sometimes when you realize that one of your favourite artists only says nonsenses, it´s hard.
When I'm happy, I almost always listen to Michelle Branch, Maroon5, Marion Raven... There's a thing about Sunday Morning (by Maroon5) that makes me wanna move. Suddenly, I forget of the world I am in and it's just me, dancing like crazy.
When I'm sad, I try to listen to happy songs, so Sunday Morning would be in this list too. But any music makes me feel better. I know that when I have a depression attack, all I have to do is press play on my CD player and sing along. There's just this powerful feeling that comes over when I listen to music that makes me remember I'm not alone.
When I'm tired, I listen to some song I love (something of Michelle Branch would do great here) and in just an instant, I wanna stay awake to keep on listening.
When I'm angry, it's Marion Raven or Avril Lavigne. I put the angriest song I can find (and that I can relate to) and sing at the top of my lungs, imagining I'm singing it to that someone that made me feel so bad. Then after some time, I'll eventually feel better about it. The more the screaming, the better.
Music does to me... the unbelievable. I don't imagine myself without it. It's just this powerful feeling... Ok, I got too inspired
exhilirated, uplifted, invincible, powerful, hurt, intoxicated, high, groovy, lost, orgasmic, drowsy, like me.
Static-X makes me feel...
poweful, fast, speed, invincible, rush, awesome.
Music is the perfect drug.
