What do you think is the best processor company? I think intel is, becuase their processors are faster and they have hyperthreading and are starting to produce 64 bit processors...

Intel will continue to Rule because Most of the Operating System [ especially windows ] considers it as a standard and they optimize Windows for INTEL. If u have ever seen the Processor box, on an intel chip it is clearly written, OPTIMIZED FOR WINDOWSXP whereas on AMD it is written " COMPATIBLE with .... "
However, recent versions of AMD chips are also being Optmized for Windows.
Intel Processors are known for STABILITY and they are more prefered at Corporate Levels
AMD processors are more known for GAMING.

yeah i agree wid you admin ..intel processors are the best as far as compatibility is concerned . AMD processors are also very good but in the early days they were known for heating up and used to hault the system , but now , the XP series of AMD is doing a great greta job , and their speed and performance definitely seems to be better than intel , but sometimes, their behaviour is auckward

I voted for Intel We have three desktop computers, and they are all Intel Pentium. And we have one laptop using Intel Centrino. I haven't really tried other processors, and we're not having any problems with Intel, so I think it's great

I had got a video of TOM'S HARDWARE TEST.

They tested out both intel and amd processors by playin the game QUAKE III ARENA and they removed the heatsink [ the thing that keeps processor cool ].

RESULTS :

Intel Processor : The FPS [ frames per second ] of the Game started dropping suddenly and finally the whole screen got blank and the PC got hanged and switched off.

AMD Processor : The FPS remained constant inspite of the removal of the heat sink and the game continued to give the same performance. But after 15 secs the processor was in flames and it scewed up itself as well as the motherboard.

CONCLUSION : I think, one who has read the above thing has enough brains to think which is the best!

...lolz..this is only a single test , have you got any videos of tryin out various programs installations on intel and AMD??..and seeing whose capable of running the program smoothly in long run .??

Intel is nice but its known as 'branded stuff' and its expensive compared to AMD. However, AMD is matching Intel's performance and it is slightly cheaper than Intel chips. That why its preferred for gaming.

By the way, how do you guys acctually overclock? I know its from the BIOs but I don't really know exactly what to do. Can someone just explain it in simple English to me?

Intel still leads in terms of technology, but AMD is catching up pretty fast. But for a performance-to-price ratio, AMD is marginally better.

I have always used intel in all of my computers because they have been around the longest and are a very very big company.

I heard that overclocking is much easier too but haven't checked it out...

Intel is best for PC proccessor (with best software support).
If only proccessor hardware is concerned, AMD is as good as Intel.
But it cann't provide good enough software support.
So it's performance is limited.

AMD has much shorter pipelines than Intel which means that AMD can do more cycled per clock, this is why AMD's clock speeds are only around 2Ghz while Intel's are really fast. Intel has longer pipelines so it requires a much faster clock speed. This is why AMD can get the same beches when its only at 2Ghz and Intel is at 3.2Ghz. But Intel's processors have a bigger cache at 512KB-2MB while AMD's best processor has only 1MB. So I think its true that AMD is slightly better for gaming while Intel is good ar word processing, E-mail, and web browsing. I have a Intel 3Ghz myself.

amd is best. i game a lot, and it works awesome. besides, amd has had 64-bit for a while, and instead of hyper-threading, they have hyper-transport (same thing, different name). they are also cheaper.

Intel is better but money are my favorite performance so I vote for A M D

gotta be intel they just have so much support, from most computer manufactureers (not that I know alot about that anyway ) but they just seem to be the best.

I didn't know that. Every day I learn something new .

But really, this arguement is useless. These processors seem to be so closely matched, and it's hard to prove which one is truely superior. As long as it gives me great performance I don't care. BTW, I have an AMD.

Tsk, Tsk, Tsk! Doesn't anybody here know that AMD is responsible for 64-bit processing happening? And if you plan to go 64 with Longhorn, no matter what brand you go with, the main infrastructure will be the same. See, it's like this, Intel overclocks it's stuff from the factory, that's why you get 3.2 ghz with 800mhz fsb. AMD keeps it real, and does it more solidly. This is why, when the 64 race started, and AMD was already ahead of the game by setting the standard for 64-bit processing, Microsoft told Intel they had to go off of what AMD had already accomplished. LOL. Now Intel has lost the lead, but continues to hold up numbers thanks to companies like gateway, dell, and compaq.

And about the processor test where they ran quake 3, and removed the heatsink... Yeah, the problem with the AMD prolly lied within the mobo, and not the processor. ASUS has whats known as C.O.P. CPU Overheat Protection, so it woulda shut off before the flames showed up, and the CPU would prolly still be okay.

If it's not apparent, I voted AMD!

Might I suggest, if you intend to flame someone, try using appropriat grammar. Secondly, there's no need to make an entire post in all caps. And I'm sorry your friend wasn't pleased with his 64, but does he know enough about the system he built that it could support all the 64 had to offer? Also, IMO, Intel hasn't made anything decent since the PIII.
