AND THE 64 BIT AMD SUCKS. MY FRIEND HAS IT, HE AUTIONED IT ON EBAY, AND BOUGHT A INTEL PROSCESSOR!
Erm...

Actually, mhz for mhz, AMD wins out. You have to also remember that AMD is now on the numbering system and 2700 (for example) doesn't actually run at 2.7 ghz, it runs at 2.1-2.2... but performs similarly to a 2.7 ghz Intel.

I don't know where you get this "more stable crap", it's true the K6's were crap back in the days of win 98/win me... but in a win2k/winxp environment, I've found that both intels and amds tend to be on par.

It is true that AMD is more costly, but it's starting to edge up on intel in price. What's really limited AMD in the past have been crappy chipsets, and I'll give it to intel, their ide interfaces rule. I had a p3 1ghz with an intel chipset and it had great hard drive access speeds... but unfortunately, via is the mainstream chipset for intel, and it tends to *BLEEP*. NVIDIA's chipsets are much better.

Intel is the company, pentium is the cpus they make...

Nobody knows about Transmeta, the company Linus Torvalds works for (think he still does) they make reprogrammable CPUs, so you can upgrade your CPU with a firmware flash downloaded from the company webpage ;) ...well, theoretically...

Intel is good but is expensive when compare to AMD. In my country intel has more advertising they cpu than amd. AMD has high temperature but if you got good cpu fan it can help you so much. By the way I use comp only for gaming little word process Internet and not go with so much multimedia like vdo cutting. I select Amd and so I got money to go with nice graphic card.
I would go with AMD. ;)

I vote for AMD for performance and pricing. I think Intel is just expensive.

IMO;
AMD: Home users / Graphic work / Gaming
Intel: business / programming and designing

Hands down (im a very big AMD fan) Intel, but its just too god damn expensive, so at a great price you get the very competetive AMD Athlon which is my CPU of choice ;)

ive always gone for AMD, only once i can remember having an intel CPU... i think it was a p133 lol

the main function for my pc is gaming, amd always seems best.

if you are on a budget the athlon XP's are great value for money. if money is no object then go for an athlon 64 as its performance cant be beaten by any other processor ;)

the intel pentium 4 is crap tbh, i dont see any reason to buy one, they are too overpirced IMO

oh yea and the AMD's are easily overclockable

Voted for Intel
Have been using Intel CPU's from my very first computer and have not had any of them fail on me yet. I will stick with Intel CPU's because of reliability and stability. However I have heard from friends that some games work better with AMD, but that is not the main use of my computer.

how about the pentium 4 extreme edition?
That's good too right?
But I just don't get it, AMD made a +4000 processor and intel just a 3,6 GHZ or was it 3,8 GHZ can't remember it but I just want to know wich one is faster and has more stability?

When AMD says its 4000+ the proc actually runs on 3000. For example an Athlon 64 3200+ only runs on 2Ghz but beats all intel CPUs that run at 2Ghz, 2.2Ghz, 2.5Ghz and even more. They are just far superior...

I’ve been using AMD processors for 8 years already, and I can say only the best for them.I have never experienced any problems with them, they were really good for overclocking, and rock stable.
I have been on the other side using Intel processors at work, and had experienced quite the opposite. They were slow, system was not stable, etc.
Go and buy AMD Athlon64! It’s the best by far!

I remember I used to have a "cyrix" processor a few years ago. Anyone know if that company is still making processors? Or is it just between AMD and intel now?

What you get for your money with AMD beats Intel hands down. Intel simply seems to have gotten a reputation as the leaders in processor manufacture. I use an AMD athlon XP and have never had any problems with the heat whatsoever.

The AMD athlon XP 3000 has a clock speed of around 2.1 GHz. Using a decent mobo (I'd recomend MSI for overclocking) you can easily achieve 2.5 GHz or perhaps more in clock speed without cooling problems. The more expensive P4 3.0GHz CPUs are easily beaten performance wise by the AMD. Clock speed isn't everything!!

Intel simply seems to a trusted household name, I suspect more experienced computer users who are more researched lean towards AMD.

I have seen this topic on some forums and the only clear answer is that evrybody do have their own favorites.

For me I'll go with Intel, they do have the stability as a company, their chipsets are doing great and they can always interact with each other more easily to introduce to the market any new technologies they may have.

AMD mainly produces processors only and whether they like it or not some of their technologies lies still on those chipset manufacturers

I run a Gateway with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual-core processor. MY best bud has the Intel Extreme Edition, which costs like 5 times what my AMD processor costs. But he comes to MY HOUSE to play his PC games, because the AMD kicks its butt. I also do heavy graphics, video editing, music production and more on my box... never had a problem. His Intel bogs down running Vegas 6. I have a gig of DDR, he has 2 gig of Corsair Extreme. Either I have the world's most abnormal AMD processor, or AMD is clearly spanking that Intel butt!
