Completely removing Internet Explorer from your computer is not recommended because there are some Windows component that still uses Internet Explorer, so if you get rid of Internet Explorer, then Windows will not function correctly.

Also, there are some sites that will only work in Internet Explorer such as ASP web sites, so if you uninstall Internet Explorer, then you will not be able to see that site.

I think it wouldn't be smart to remove it, cause how are you going to use windows update without IE and like snlildude87 said, there are IE only sites.

Hi soulsanctuary,
IE "shouldn't" interfere with firefox plugins as long as you have set firefox as your default webbrowser in system configuration. BUT- you can't rule out that MS might be up to some of their old tricks again re: the browserwars & bundling issues they got slapped for in the past. :o . My advice is to check out/search for "browser conflicts" etc. issues in google or other engine to see if there are any known issues lately.
Also, as snildude & bomzone said

Quote

how are you going to use windows update without IE
and

some Windows component that still uses Internet Explorer, so if you get rid of Internet Explorer, then Windows will not function correctly
.
Also, removing IE completely will probably remove some of Windows .dll files which are necessary for Win OS to run properly or at all. MS blows :D with all their interconnected, sneaky marketing KR*p!.
Hope this helps

I dont think it is a good idea to remove IE, since Windows itself relies on IE. Also I doubt that IE is interfering with your Firefox plug-ins.

u can remove internet explorer, but its not recommended to remove html rendering engine built in the OS . That's what makes all the html compilation.

use xplite for more personalization :o

You can't remove IE, not safely at least. The best you can do (requires SP1) is to remove access to it through "Set Program Access and Defaults" thingamajig.
As far as I've experienced, the flash plugins for the different browsers are installed in totally different places, so there shouldn't be any conflicts. Make sure you have the newest firefox and newest plugin versions.

I think it wouldn't be wise to uninstall it, beacuse as you can see all of the folders and windows explorer are formed onIE basis...If you open My Documents for example and in the adress bar you enter lets say www.trap17.com than your My Documents folder would noramly open the page as it was IE...so WINDOWS & IE are two things that just have to be together to work...

You'll have to live with it if you want your windows to function properly;)

actually i suggest not to remove IE since a lot of software actually depend on the IE operating controls, removal of IE would lead to soffware incompatibility, instability and issues, why not just live iwith it.. it does not kill!!!

cheers,

I hate Internet Explorer too, but I won’t go so far as to remove it from my system. I don’t think it is a good idea to remove this rubbish from the OS for you will need it in Windows Update, as well as certain web applications. Say, the online tutorial system my school used, WebCT, would not support browsers other then Internet Explorer. Of course, you can send a faked user agent through you Firefox / Mozilla browser with Mutizilla, but Internet Explorer is not fully W3C html compliant and it is not using the DOM model either, so you will have errors with the syntax occasionally. Actually, there are quite a lot of rubbish php scripts that do not take into consideration the use of alternate browsers. Certain functions of these poorly written forums could not be used with browsers other then Internet Explorer. So I strongly recommend that you keep Internet Explorer in your system. You can just use it during Windows Updates and the numerous flaws with the poor browser would not bother you then…

I never attempted to remove IE from my computer and I probably won't. Aside from the risk of Windows not being able to function properly, there are some websites that won't work unless you view it with IE. So, I'll keep both Firefox and IE.

I would imagine the task of complete Internet Explorer removal being very tough and not recommended at all. I'm pretty certain that Windows would really struggle to function without it as many facets of windows rely heavily on it. When you click on help, my computer or anything really it is in an Internet explorer interface. I'm not sure whether or not it does actually use internet explorer when in my computer and other things but it sure feels like internet explorer. You should pop the question to microsoft- see what they have to say about it -_-

Yes Internet explorer is pain in the ass if you remove it completly from your system. Lot of programs that connect to Internet uses Explorers .dlls, so if you remove it you won't be able to use MSn Messenger, lot of Antivirus programms, Upadte features of XP, numbers of programs. Actually I was able to remove it only form WIndows 98, never have tried to remove it ffrom windows Xp.
But Firefox is only good solution for web browsing, and Internet Explorer for Updating and some other stuff.

WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE REPLYING WITH THE SAME RESPONSE??
How To Remove Ie Completely

YES, it is RECOMENDED NOT to remove IE, BUT, if like me you are having beta issuses and are unable to reinstall IE7 because it detects "newer versions of IE" THEN HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GET THE CRAP OFF YOUR SYSTEM TO RETURN TO NORMAL??

PEOPLE, PLEASE do not try IE8 Beta, it is rubbish!

BTW, if several people have already said what you are about to write, don't write it, your just adding pointless posts that take up valuable space and time!

Not TrueHow To Remove Ie Completely

If you are running Windows 2000 SP 2 or bellow with none of the other Microsoft updates then web browsers other than IE may be having issues. It is not an IE issue it is a Windows issue and you should think about running Microsoft updates.

Ok, obviously you guys know nothing about system files. How To Remove Ie Completely

You can easily erase the files in the internet explorer folder in the programs folder in your designated system location (commonly the C: drive), if you think that other processes rely on the IE then you are DEAD wrong, unless you have comprised to use that browser in the first place. When installing a new browser, Crazy browser, Firefox, Safari, etc. It automatically overwrites priority over the previous browser if you let it do so.Yes you may think and say this and that but in the end you need to grow up, once the previous browser has been overwritten it then relies on the newer browser for access to the internet (if you have a firewall that will tell you whats going where). For the final answer to all your questions yes, you can COMPLETELY delete Internet Explorer (any version) just by typing commands in the cmd.Exe that will giving authority over the file and then delete it, or as if you users say the safest way is to "disable" IE just by going through the uninstall and untick the boxes until it says 0k.

Sorry for being rude but I was sick and tired of people winging what can be accomplished if they researched a little bit, sorry for those who have been offended.

And yes I just made a random name and email address so I can reply to you.

I have Windows 7 and have removed IE8 from my computer by deleting the Internet Explorer file in programs on c drive,or hard drive. I did this with the help of a tool called unlocker. If you delete the IE8 file you remove the program. Now IE8 is permanently off of my computer, but it has not effected it in the least. And there is nothing about Internet Explorer that I miss.So yes you can do it this way. Andrea.
