If you had to only take 3 pieces of software, what would they be and why?
I will start by saying
First, I will go with opera because i love its speed and compliance with w3 standards.
Second, trillian because i can use all the chats in one although miranda is looking better each day but not there yet for me.
Finally, bitfender because its such a small yet extensive program that also works for linux
Your turn now

1. Firefox - The best and most secure browser out there. Not to mention it's open source and free.
2. Photoshop CS - I see what this thing is capable of doing, so I decided to jump in the bandwagon. Best graphics software out there. Not free, but definately worth the money if you know how to use it.
3. Microsoft Notepad - Simplicity is the key. Whenever I want to edit one of my webpages, I just right-click, and select Edit. Simple. Also, it doesn't take up much memory at all, so you can have about 30 instances of Notepad open without slowing down your computer. Did I mention it's free?

My favorite 3 software are
(1) windows xp sp2 - i just upgrade from win2000 a couple days ago. It seems likely faster than win2000 on my AMD 1.2G CPU with 512 MB ram.
(2)partition magic 8- I like to fdisk my hard. It just fast and correct.
(3)Emeditor- it is clean and powerful.

Well i would take
1.) Trillian
2.) Winamp
3.) Bittornado (Shadow's expiramental bittorrent client)
unless an operating system was considered software then i would have to take windows xp instead of Bittornado since i would need something to run winamp and trillian

I'll second that, but (not to start a flamewar) my favorites are:
1. GNU Emacs - spend more than 6 hours daily using this (development, web design, etc.)
2. Mozilla Firefox - a fantastic browser made even better with great extension like Adblock, Aardvark, Web Developer and Greasemonkey!
3. Perl - this is the programming language I would take with me on a deserted island - it's just so versatile.
And luckly all three products works on everything I use : Linux, Unix and Windows...

1. Windows XP SP2
2. Internet Explorer working on Internet.
3. Norton Internet Security.
Then, I would go on Internet Explorer, download Firefox, then go on Firefox, download:
Ares and LimeWire - Good p2ps
MSN Messenger
SmartFTP - I need a FTP client!
WinAmp
Ad-Aware
Then, i would go on LimeWire and download:
Microsoft Office XP with Frontpage
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 (I'm not using CS)
Dreamweaver.
I know I'm a bit illegal, but, if I only could start with 3 programs, I couldn't do it any other ways...
And now, I think I have everything I need.
So, if I were able to get three softwares, and Internet (no-one said anything about that or any hardware), I could get everything I need. lol.
