Usually, it has better compability, it's faster, more reliable, without problems in games (usually) etc etc etc....Even though I got a tnt2 and directx 8 B)

DirectX 9.0C supports pixel shader 3.0 which the new NV40 chipsets have.

Most newer games need a newer direct x. I'll have a go and report what sort of speed boost i get. I probably wont get much, because i already get around 20fps on Farcry with everything maxed out and aa on full.

I get around 50-80FPS in FarCry with everything maxed out at 1280x1024. And DirectX 9.0C only adds support for SM3.0 in the new NV40 chipsets.

i doubt it very much the features that the 9600xt contain i think are covered in directx 9.0b i think this one is for the x800's and 6800 ultra but heck who cares. it will improve performance and compatability on most cards

In actuality direct x10 is scheduled to debut shortly. However, apparently it is only going to be used in windows7 computers due to the advanced setup of the operating system. This was fist noted with the introduction of windows vista which paved the way for better setups. Vista initially started the modifications to provide programmers better, more effective, use of the dual core processors; windows 7 supposedly completed the task. The new direct x should provide a better overall gaming experience.
