It is a false belief that the closer the proxy, the faster the surf. Some facts you may want to know:
Latency: How long it takes to send/receive packets from your PC/MAC (to me, every computer owned by a Civilian is a PC due to Literacy. PC mean's Personal Computer, not Microsoft Windows.) Latency is measured in ms (milliseconds).
I'll put it to you like this: If you connect to a proxy in, say, the UK which uses the ISP known as AF2K, you can get speed's up to 60 Mbps. However, it may take a little longer to initiate the download/upload because of Latency time, but once it start's it will be MUCH faster than any connection in the U.S.
