- Delete from time to time all files in the Prefect directory (located in the Windows directory)
- Defragment your harddisk once in a while.
- Turn of System Restore.
- Disable the new visual styles and use that ugly grey one from previous windows.
These are not all for making windows start up faster, but also to make it run faster. You could also try to update your BIOS (I think it's called flashing?) if you do not have the latest version already. But note: don't hold me responsible for any problems whatsoever

fillipc... good stuff. that's what i did to my computer after my dad told me it helped heaps. also another thing to do is in msconfig click on the services tab and, same thing, disable all the stuff you don't need. it helps heaps, but you need to be REALLY REALLY careful. and whatever you do DONT disable the services marked essential. THIS WILL KILL YOUR COMPUTER.
anyway, apart from that, this should speed up your computer a fair bit!

I am not sure , but I think I can help you.
Click on Start>Run , enter "msconfig" , then go to "startup tab" and uncheck all items you don't want to start with windows.
That was help me several times , and make computer faster.

Possibly you may be having also unckecked the required program by mistake.
If it does not solve by this method, isn't there any other cause?
Since GUI of Windows XP is a little heavier than the conventional thing,there is a method of changing GUI into classic.If it is carried out, Window will open a bit more smoothly.
Otherwise, although that will not be right, it may be possibly infected with spyware.

seccond click on "start/run" and type "regedit". hit "F3" and search 4 "runonce" and delete all programms u dont use in the tabs run, runonce and runservices.
so. next u got to enlarge the swapfile. rithtclick on "desktop/properties". u shuld see now the systeminformation [not the graphigs]. go to the last tab and set the swapfile to "minimum 130 and maximum 300 mb". this shuld boost your pc a little.
if u use thé symantec norton firewall or av - deinstall and get annother one. symantec is a performancekiller.
so. now hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and select the taskmanager. check wich apps are running and localize theese u dont need...
restart - finisch.
ur pc is now 20-70% faster.

Also without using bootvis you can perform the exact similar tasks :
1. Start -> Run type : defrag c: -b
Assuming Windows XP to be installed in drive C.
Then again Start->Run type : rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
This process run's in background (no visible window), but look for the hard disk activity led .... takes some time to complete.

That took me ages to scroll through!! As i was using my PSP browser at the time
On Topic: If your Windows is really that slow you probually have a virus or some other form of malware. Next time you log in i reccomend you update your virus scanner and then do an ixtensive virus scan.

Many unnecessary programmes in startup, for this try finding out the unuseful processes and remove them from booting- it will greately reduce the boot time of your machine.
Secondly see if you have not installed some heavy antivirus programme, any Symantec product, coz that is something which will reduce the speed of your system drastically.
Hope these two things will help.
