hey I found out that they now have cars that can go in water. I don't know if this has been out for a long time or not but I have seen this on TV the other day. The car I have seen on TV was said to be $900,000 to buy.

The Volkswagen Beatle could float on water for a bit.. :P Like the old saying "Ted Kennedy could be president if he drove a beatle."

That's cool though, was it able to manuever in the water? Was it jet propelled or something like that?

ya it went on top of the water. It had little fins on the side and like a propeller on the back. It was like the James Bond car.

Why wouldn't they make cars that can drive on water. It would be basically a hover craft. They are always trying to improve technology and they have probably been trying to make cars able to drive on water for years. Soon a car won't be just a car. It will be a boat, a plane, a suit case, a house, etc; They are always trying to combine things to make it seem easier than instead of driving a car getting out and taking a boat with other people. It's just the way of life. :P

Coincidence is non-sequitur, therefore everything has a reason for its existence (except if they are eternal).

Cars driving on water isnt a new thing. I've seen a car do that back in my younger years. Only reason you dont see much of them is cause most manufacturers dont feel like making them, for whatever the reason. As far as i know, the only way to get one is to modify your car.

oh.. i though yo usaid. .go IN water (as in underwater) <---. .some tanks could do that =P

well.. if you guys ever watch monster garage on discovery channel.. they modified a car that run on water and stuff. And they had a race and i think the car beat the real boat..

But yeah.. pretty stupid i think =P.. I think they should just spend time making a vechicle that young children can use to get around. Without having a drive license.. =(..

Still, I'm excited to hear about a car that is now able to go underwater. When I watched the James Bond flick "The Spy Who Loved Me", I was wondering when they might come up with the technology to build something like that. Do you have any links related to that story?

yeah there is also another one called the Aqua Car, search google and there is a whole site and everything. The only snag is it can't yet go under water, but atop it is fine. Quite nice looking and pritty fast.

I don't know about a car-briefcase (this isn't the Jetsons), but quite a few people have already used their vehicles as homes, and they have been for decades (I think it was pioneered by the hippies).

Having a car-boat serves little purpose (aside from veing 'cool'), unless the car can travel great distances (over a Great Lake, for example).

I think that the idea behind having a car that can also be a boat or a submersable is a very good one. Its a fun idea. Then family road trips could be alot more fun. Hey kids lets go to the local lake and drive around on it. Families could learn more about under water creatures etc. There would have to be more regulations and stuff but I digress.

What I would rather see is even more fuel efficient cars and cars that run on alternate fuel sources. I am worried about the environment and the earth. The resources are dwindling.

There won't be sub-cars anytime soon; since internal combustion engines require oxygen to work; a resource that isn't very abundant underwater. Furthermore, most lakes that I have seen aren't exactly wheel-accessible; how would one get the car out of the water again, save from mounting air tanks on the car to allow it to re-surface.

I saw it. They also have a sports car. They are waterproof on the bottom and you just drive into the water. I am not sure if they have folding tires, I am sure some do. But they do have a prop on the back for propulsion. They are supposed to go about 30-35 in water.

I think they should create a combo sub too. No serious. You go get a license and it has special cpabilities for sonar and a radar to see whats above you. Technology is going bust. I am sure they have quite a number of things that are beyond our imagination. Great topic though. Just reafirms what I saw a while back.

I don't doubt that there are floating cars, but a car that had the abilities of a submersible would be very ugly, not to mention very expensive. If it was ever majorly manufactured at all, it would only be for the very wealthy.

There are quite a few cars that can in water now. They have existed for a long time in the military.

I don't think that these cars are very practical. How often is it that someone would drive and then decide he wants to take off the road and into the water? not very. Also, there would have to be special roads that slope into the water for this to work.

cars can also go under water if you close the intake and brine a fat pipe from the intake to the top of the car. a saw many offroad trucks and buggies do this. therefore no air gets into the car while the car still gets cooled down.

Has anyone seen the motorhome this guy made the can go in the water? It's really cool! It has a propeller in the back and a swim deck to! I think he said if he were going to sell it it would cost a couple million.

wow that's really cool it's amazing what science and technology brings us everyday, floating-in-water cars, HDTVs, mp3 players, inet fridges. . . i wonder when are going to bring these cars to mexico and how much money would they cost X_X, or maybe they would be exclusively for the army <,<

I heard about some kind of army ship that rolls on wheels and is air tigt so it can roll on the bottom of the ocean/lake/river/what ever. Maybe one day they'll make underwater roads with underwater traffic signals ;)

Hehe, now thats interesting, but I think it is soooo NOT NEEDED!! I just dont get it why people are tryin to improve everything when everything is already quite ok! Maybe we should downgrade a few things and go back living closer to nature eventhough we find that impossible to imagine nowadays...

I really think that something big will have to happen for us to understand that we cannot use our mother earth and push her to its limits! She will fight back and she does now with all the tornados, earthquakes and stuff...

People just doesn't realize that...thats all..

So I think that wooden boats and bycicles instead of cars would be a good start!

greetz ;)

You must remember that things must be efficient and worthwhile to be built. For example, that army vehicle gets a stealth advantage from it's ability to roll on the ocean floor, but having a car underwater would just mean extra fuel would be needed (since water has more resistance than air) and for normal travel, an airplane or boat would be much cheaper/more fuel-efficient. Furthermore, the ocean floor is very soft, and with the added weight of the ocean itself pushing down, it would be very easy for something as heavy as a vehicle to be sucked below the ocean floor and never come up again. Even if there were underwater cities, there would be much more efficient ways of travelling than via "underwater cars."

Wouldn't it be just cheaper to get a small boat and a regular car? :( I'm waiting until the time that they make a car that can fly, go on and under water, and that has a fridge and a stove (or at least a microwave).

(I do know there are mini freezers or similar in cars these days but I want one I can stick a turkey in!)

Try a hovercraft.

Currently it can go on water and land, but not air. Wait till the hovercraft makers add those spinners from those helicopters on top of the hovercrafts. Or you can also pump in hydrogen air instead to make it fly. :(

seems like a cool thing. But for the price it makes it a little crazy. You could buy a nice boat for cheaper than that. I would say haveing a boat would be a lot smarter than paying a crazy amaount of money for a car that can drive on water.
