Yeah like some of the others said it really depends on what programs are strating up on when you turn on the computer automatically. I know that I have Steam as one of the programs that auto come on. Its not a big thing so it doesn't effect it much. Also having programs on when you want to shut down a computer causes it to take longer. Which is a bit annoying yes, but you simply shut down as many programs as you can before shutting down. Other than that you really can't do much. RAM might help but not to osure about that topic.

The reason it takes so long is probably because there is a spyware infection , or you have too many programs running in the background making the computer close them all maunaly which takes time try deinstalling some or restore your computer

Thats my suggestion

My Pc takes a long time to start up and shut down. For Starting Up isn't there a way to make it go faster? Like making it so nothing starts up during start up?
I think there is a place somewhere under the Start menu thing.

the same thing used to happen to me... dreadfully long shut down times. it would stay on the blue screen for about 10mins or so. i found that once it got to a point 20secs in, with no processing from the cpu it was safe to manually shut it down. using the same pc now, with no shut down time at all. i think i re-installed windows, too many bugs and spyware pre-format.

My PC also takes quite a while to start up and shut down, although the latter may be due to the number of programs in the background that must shut off or installing updates. What really bugs me now is the time it takes for the computer to start up - and yes, I've disabled a couple of "non-essential" programs, did disk cleanup, etc. On top of that, opening up programs after startup also take much too long. Could it be a sign that I should maybe upgrade (I bought it at the end of 2003), get a new PC or simply get a Mac?

Problems updating and shutting down with Windows 7Annoyingly Long Time For Shut Down

Hello,

I'm having major problems updating and shutting down my computer.  It's a brand new computer (ASUS UL80Vt-A1) that I only purchased about a month ago.  It has the Windows 7 O/S.  I have barely used the computer, as it's still very, very new.  Yesterday I turned on the computer and it needed updates from Windows, so I started the updating.  It took 7 hours to install 24 updates!!  It would not shut off properly after the updates were installed.  I also checked the history of the updates, and many of the updates failed to install.  I had to take out the battery in order for the computer to shut off, then I turned it on again, and used it for a short time.  When I went to shut down the computer, it had the sign for more updates!  So, the computer was installing 10 more updates from Windows, and it took all night! I started at 7PM the night before, and it was still on when I woke up the next morning.  It has been trying to shut down for many hours.  The computer is still saying "shutting down".  I can't use control-alternate-delete, as that does nothing.  I think I will take out the battery again like I did before.  Please help!!  Do you think it's a virus? Perhaps it was sold to me with a virus already in the O/S?

Thanks for your help.

Solved:
I had the same problem when I bought the Dell n4050 Core I3 one , I realized that the default user account is the problem, create a new user , delete the default one , that is .
