I bumped into this page: http://research.micr...srg/whistmusic/ when I was browsing the internet :(

Scroll down to the bottom, and you'll hear some pretty amazing songs! Sung by text to speech synthesized voices!

It'll be awhile before they hit the top ten, but still quite an advancement. There doesn't seem to be an end to where all this technology is taking humankind. Next thing will be a computer to walk your dog...

Wow, now that will be an interesting toy to play with on the pc. Specially since Im not really a good singer and its hard to get someone to sing to the music I make. Thats pretty cool.

Is it just me or does this seem to be one of the weirdest and probably most pointless things Microsoft has ever developed? Would people go out and buy a CD of Microsoft Sam singing "You Have Selected Microsoft Sam As The Computer's Default Voice"? It'd certainly not make the top ten.

Mark and melanie should release a single, i'd buy it :( It's quirky and cute. Can you imagine it, if you got a good enough computer voice you could be making millions out of a computerised popstar and everyone could do it!

It's still a noticeable difference between the computer and human but this is a huge improvement from the current computer that are loaded on most windows machines. The first time I heard a computer sing was with bonzi buddy many years ago and it was singing bicycle. Hearing this new technology and comparing it's quite amazing how life-like this is getting.

wow, i never knew computers were be able to sing. Also, I would never have guessed that the voices which are used on Microsoft's Narrator would be used for the computer's singing.
The audio clips on that site are good. I'm really impressed at how far technology has actually gone, what with computers now being able to sing as well as talk.

I agree with jlhaslip's post above. I doubt that in a couple of years, singing would be the most advanced thing computers could do. In a couple of years, computers will most likely be able to do a lot more than just singing. Looking at singing in a couple of years will look old.

I think if Microsoft did release full length songs similar to the clips on the site, they would become very popular and could even make the top part of the charts.

Thanks to iGuest for posting a new link. Yes, this is truly amazing. Macs come with many text-to-speech voices, including some singing ones, but this is better. Thanks for sharing.

I just realized that it just takes one-word clips from songs and puts them together. I actually recognized one. It's still pretty cool, though.

edit: I recognize four or five now surprisingly enough.

I don't mean to be negative or anything, but it doesn't amaze me.
It's just the basic technology that has always been available with samplers.
Digitally adjusting the pitch of a note is so old news it's not funny.
