Chase-good Example Of Bad Banking

@Joshua
The overdraft protection definitely was a mean trick that Chase, or Bank One, pulled on you. I would think the overdraft protection covers both withdrawals and cheques unless they mentioned it. I've noticed that most organizations tend to offer you some kind of a benefit if you can keep bugging them about trying to reduce the amount you have to pay. Haggle and you can actually save from a couple of dollars to several hundred dollars! In fact, my neighbour managed to talk the real estate agent into giving him the apartment for about half of the rent by just calling up and talking over the phone, though I doubt I'd be able to do that unless I promised to hand the agent a treasure map in exchange for the reduced rent.
@anwiii
That interest rate increase seems like Chase really was in need of your money. I believe getting a credit card with the same bank and the one where you keep your cash is a good idea because they can simply deduct the amount from your account and you can avoid getting into the negative.
@kagerioshu
A co-worker once went to ABN Amro to get a new bank account and the bank representative mentioned that the minimum balance for opening an account was $6,800. That's almost seven thousand U.S. dollars as a deposit for opening an account when all other banks required merely $1,300. He later ended up going to Barclays Bank which offered a zero-balance account for a fee of $8 per month.
Just an off-topic question, but where do all the iGuest posts come from and why aren't there actual user accounts associated with those posts?

I recently had to make an emergency trip to Europe due to my mom being taken to the hospital due to a stroke,well I have all my utilities taken our of my chase account automatic and I used my card in Europe which gave me a negative balance by less than five dollars,now because of my utilities chase charged me four overdraft fees in two days,this is pure evil so beware of them,july 2010 can not come soon enough,my question is what is barney frank doing while chase gets away with this evil?

Chase actually switches online transactions to make you overdraft. That is what they did to me and I actually witnessed it happening. I called five times in two days about it and nobody would admit that they do that, even though I had proof! It was very annoying and I immediately switched to a credit union. What a great choice. I will get my $80 Chase fees back in no time with a credit union. I was so surprised when I found out that a few people still like Chase.

Last Wednesday I had about $400 in my checking account. I spent around $120 on two transactions and checked my account Thursday which showed the two transaction had posted and taken from my balance. I have direct deposit on my paycheck, and has always posted Thursday at midnight. Thrusday afternoon I wrote a check for my rent. Granted it was floating, and I wouldn't be upset if they charged me with the overdraft on that. What they did do however, was remove the two previous withdraws that were done earlier that week, pended my paycheck, and posted my rent check first, making my overdrawn, the reposting the previous two transactions that were suppose to be already cleared and posted, which clearly SHOWED on my statement when I checked online. This cause three overdraft charges at $35 a pop. My direct deposit was still pending the next day. They have NEVER pended my direct deposit before.
Now I will take blame when blame is due. But for them to repost cleared transactions and hold a direct deposit is just shady. After calling India, hoping for an explanation, and maybe a reversal on at least two of the fees, I was told that nothing could be done and I did not have proof that the two previous transactions posted, and that they automatically hold any deposit for at least 24 hours, which is a lie! I hung up and filed a case with OCC. Chase is nothing but a bunch of liars and thieves. Looking quickly now for a new bank!

I have been with WAMU for almost 10 years now... Absolutely loved them... My debit transactions never pended for days, they were processed the same day, and my direct deposits always were posted. Never pended, Thursday night at midnight. Kristi, the same thing happened to me... Every paycheck since August... Since Chase took over I have had more overdraft fees than I have ever had in a lifetime!! In the last 5 months they have charged me $550 in fees because my deposits are posting after my credits from my account...Although in the time frame the deposit was made before the credits were ran. It is beyond frustrating, and I have been on the phone from one supervisor to the next for hours, and they have a policy they can oly reverse $70 of overdraft fees period. I HATE CHASE!
I am going with a credit union... **** corporate banks!! /txtmngr/images/smileys/smiley7.Gif
