Boosting the speed of your Internet Connection

Your internet connection speed is something which is dependent on many factors other than your PC. However, We can always try to optimize the parameters in our hand to get the most of our Net Connection.

We have posted new information and resources about making your internet connection faster :-

Lets first start with the operating system. Before you continue, make sure that your PC is clean.

Optimize your computer for peak performance -> http://www.microsoft...e/optimize.mspx

and

Check this article for maintaining a healthy network. -> http://www.microsoft...thynetwork.mspx

Firstly, We recommend a good browser like Firefox.

Apart from being a more secure Firefox, it is always blamed to be browser which is very slow to perform and infact many have ignored Firefox for this reason. While the coming of the Firefox 3.0 should eliminate that (beta already available), it is simply useful to know the following tweak which can improve performance of Webpage access and loading speed in Firefox.
More info: http://www.windowsreference.com/firefox/tw...net-browsing-1/
Secondly, if you are using a CABLE / DSL internet connecton

DSL Speed is a professional tool that will tweaks and optimize your DSL (e.g., ADSL, G.lite,IDSL,SDSL) connection speed up to max.
Another decent resource on Internet Accelerators, http://www.speedupno...t-software.html

Lot of other resources for improving your internet connection speed :-
(BEWARE, most of them will play with your System Settings and we personally DO NOT RECOMMEND them)

Intresting. Is this for high-speed internet as well as dial-up? How does it work?

500 times is probably too much for the modem to handle, specially if it's only dial-up. I really doubt it. Anyone had any experience with this software program?

It most likely simply tweaks protocols and different network options to provide the best path for information to past in and out of your computer and to the network. Most freeware programs can do the same. I highly doubt, however, that this program could make the internet 500 times faster. Yes, this program will make my internet go 4,000 mbs. (Sarcasm)

X-Master, as you are new, be careful what you post as this could be construed as advertising something.
I will certainly give it a go and see how it runs. We suffer from a poor ADSL connection but our ISP has so far been able to fix (Telecom's fault we think) so hopefully this might improve things. We'll see....
I have read mixed reviews about it with most people saying it's great and some really *BLEEP*ing about it.
Just as a note, I see that people are saying that after you uninstall it, it does not uninstall the registry keys so you have to manually uninstall those... FYI <_<

Not to be to much of a meany, but you won't even get 2x your connection speed without paying for a better connection. DSL still goes through phone lines and is limited to the quality of phone wiring, hops, etc. Usually DSL has more node hops than cable.

Most cable is at 2-5mb/s depending on the speed cap on your modem/IP. For example I have a 5mb/s connection from Road Runner. I get almost exactly 5mb/s and 700kb/s upload. If I wanted to get it to be faster I'd have to do 1 of 2 things: 1: upgrade to a business class connection, which doesn't entail to any hardware or wiring changes, just raising the bandwidth restriction for my modem. 2: hack my modem to remove the cap, which I would rather not do.

But, there are programs that can help you find the shortest and fastest path to the server your connecting too. In some cases where you usually take 10-20 hops to get to a server, they can nock it down to 5-10 and this would seem to be so much faster, but your connection is still the same speed.

*edit*
After looking into the program I noticed it's nothing to do with traffic directing but traffic "shaping". Apparently it organizes your connection traffic for better flow. It sounds logical, but not sure if it's practical. I'd have to test it out myself to see if there was any improvement. (and I will of course *smile*)
*/edit*

I doubt this program will actually make it 500 times faster.
I mean TCPOptimizer tweaks some network settings to improve it maybe 10 kbps?

Please do not advertise products on here (try not to). It is okay to discuss about software, etc. but don't advertise it.

This program will make my connection 25000 kbps. I highly disbelieve that.

500 times is a big boast. Your internet connection is physically limited by the quality of the cabling into your property - no software can upgrade that im afraid.

nothing could alter your internet settings to make it 500 time faster lol, nothing could alter your settings to make it more than 5x faster its all in the wires and what your Internet service provider lets you.

Can someoen report back when they try it out??

Im sorta interested lol

If this review site can be believed, it apparently works very well (not sure about a 500 times faster increase, though).

It looks interesting but I'm still a big skeptic.

I read a comment by a person who had tried this product and was "shut down" by their ISP. The ISP (Roadrunner) detected the program as a "modem uncapper" which is apparently "illegal".

If I do end up trying this program, my comments about it will be posted here... if Rogers doesn't "shut me down", that is.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa 500 times! Hmm are you sure you don't mean five times? Presumeably, this image depicts actual statistics regarding page load times with cFos and just on a normal modem operating under XP

Posted Image

So the stats for greenpeace.org are as follows:
  • cFos = 5.5s
  • XP = 19.6s
And for amazon.com:
  • cFos = 8.3s
  • XP = 39.2s
Now for the maths:

     19.6/5.5 = 3.6
     39.2/8.3 = 4.7

3.6 and 4.7 times faster is not quite 500 more like 5. In fact the first one doesn't look like 5 at all. Oh well, there go my dreams of a 28MB/s modem <_<

Yeah there is no way this will make your speed 500x faster. Like others have said, it might reduce the time by maybe 5x max if that. If you are interested in speed up your connection and download speeds first us TCPOptimizer (just like someone else said) and then read PCStats's guide titled "99 Performance Tips" and go to the internet section and tweak the registry like it states. This got me from 400 kb/s on my comcast cable 6 mbps connection to being able to download files at 1 mb/s since the tweaks increase the max number of connections your browser is allowed to use at once. I would not recommend using this with dialup since i might be overkill and actually slow your connection but it works wonders on broadband.

Where'd my 1500MB DSL go? I tried this and really I don't see any difference. The download speed is the same and so is the upload speed. I don't know what these people are pulling but I'm not buying it. Or their product. It's not even worth finding a keygen.

maybe he meant 500% faster? even still i doubt this is true. its seems as though x-master has posted this for the sole purpose of advertising this software... there are example pics and links to trial downloads... and he ahsnt posted anything esle. pretty sad going to this extent just to advertise a piece of software.

I highly disagree that this is possible because boosting cable or T1 500 times is just insane that much speed is shocking to me. Also if this was actually true it would have to be done by changing server and provider settings which last time I checked was illegal.

i agree dear Mjay06
500 Time , i think its a joke becuase for dialup connections you need 56K modem with V92 . if your gateway send data with 1MB speed your modem can get data with 56Kb speed

Ok when an app says it makes browsing 500 times faster all it is doing is creating a cache of web sites and images and what not. It gives the illusion that is speeds it up, when it actually does nothing.

Dial is only as fast as it is. Cable modems, same thing.

When people say they are getting killers speeds, look at what you are connecting to. If you are connected to a website that has a t3 backbone and you are the only one on that site, then sure, it will be faster. But like anything else traffic, noise, and the host itself have a determining factor on how fast you access that site.

Do not believe the hype when an app says it can speed up your internet connection. If they could actually do that, why would they have created cable modems, or T1 and T3 connections. Use your heads folks! There is no such thing as a free lunch!

Having 100MBPS Broadband and a private network, it probably won't work for me.Although this would've helped me when I only have 56KBPS Dial-up with Netzero.

Regardless of how well this product works, I generally avoid downloading anything I see posted on a form. I'd rather not get a virus or worm.
