Did they ever make a jetpack that worked good and didn't have any problems? Because if they did how much would they sell for? That would be cool everyone riding to school on a jetpack :P Send me one.
Also who came up with the idea to make that. I wonder :)

yes they have made one, it would sell for around 3 million...., its a big square thing with 4 jets, you have to wear a cooling suit, and you can only ride on it for 20 mins at a time, auto detecting winds etc

I've seen that lemonwonder... I think that's as close as they've gotten...
I once say another thing, but you were more "inside" it, probably so you don't get fried by the jets...

the reason you don't see this kind of thing on the market is because it just isn't practical... there are better things to spend your millions on... :)

Ya I have heard of the jet pack you guys are talking about. I saw it once while watching Myth Busters because they were trying to make one. I think it would be crazy to spend that much money on a jet pack but you know if I won the lottery I would buy it. Even if you can only use 20 minutes you can get rather far in that time but you can't really park it anywhere you sort of have to carry it around with you so no one will steal it.

I have always wondered that can anone in here tell me?

I dont think a jetpack will ever work, it just isnt practical to have something like that in your back. It probably would be hard to maneuver and dangerous. I bet that we will se some sort of anti gravity pack or board way before or if even a good jetpack is ever made.

We wouldn't see anything anti-grav before we saw a jet pack unless they decided it was dumb. But anti-grav boards and packs would be A LOT heavier than a jet pack. It would take a lot of equipment. And anti-grav isn't something were going to be using in the near future. In a few hundred years we might. But not any sooner. Jet packs would be a lot easier and CHEAPER to make. They would also sell for a lot less. The only negative to it would be the exhaust. But there are suits that can take really hot temperatures. Like the ones they use around Volcanoes. Jet packs will be out way before anything anti-grav.

Well if you read the topic there are jetpacks have already been made and flown. It won't be that hard just take practice like flying a plane or learning to ride a bike. It just takes time to learn the controls and get used to it. They probably will be come less expensive in time like computers they will get smaller and easier to make.

Yes I agree with Plenoptic(I hope I got your name right) They will become something common in the near future. Computers were something not a lot of people had back then. Well not a lot (Almost nobody) Owns a jetpack but in the future I bet lots of people will.

Thats interesting that you say that because on engadget this morning they wrote an article about the new sky walker jet pack (www.skywalkerjets.com) the only problem i see is the cost ($200,000). You can find the aricle here http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/31/skywalk...in-development/

Like regular products? I bet in like 20-25 years. Do you guys think that the price will go down?
I bet it will it was the same with everything ever sold more people will buy if it the cost goes down. :D
I will be sure to buy one at the next walmart sale :P

They are valued at millions, they were so hard to make, it has to detect wind and make sure it stays in the air, it goes for 20 instead of 5, and others were familliar with it also

I think it will never be a mode of transport and only a select few will have one. They are too inpracticle and especially with fuel prices rising they will be too expensive to oparate in 15 - 20 years when the technology will be refined enough to be practicle. We will have pritty much exhausted alll of our oil and will all be using some sort of renewable energy.

lol, dont expect oil to go that slowly, oil will be gone so quick, knowone will notice until all gas stations are out of order

Lemon, there is still a lot of oil on the planet. We're not as close to the bottom of the well as it may sound, it's just that most wells have not yet been tapped. Futhermore, I recently read in a science magazine that about half of all mined coal is low-energy "junk" coal that is unable to be used in power plants and must be tossed out. However, though a new manufacturing process, this "junk coal" can be turned into gasoline.

Umm helo! :P There are a lot of more ways to fuel something :) Like solar powered. That would be perfect!(It would suck if you were flying and then it started to turn cloudy :P ) Splat!

Yeh but youd need a re-build, so it can run on other fuels... just like u cant run and ultra hi premium on diesel, and the people that get oil will have to stop before the world completely runs out

No, unless I'm greatly mistaken, this process would turn the "junk" coal into ordinary gasoline. If I am, please point me to an article mentioning that a different engine would be necessary, because so far I haven't been able to find one (although this article is interesting). And besides, one would have to re-build the internal combustion engine to switch to a different fuel besides gasoline, anyway. It's not an easy process.

I was trying to say that, you would need to change your motor to be able to run off the different fuel. But if they can turn junk coal into deisel and premium 91 that wood be good, but another crisis wood be right around the corner.

If they cant re-make the stuff cars run on today, all the cars will need to be edited, and thats alot of cars... I wonder if people are actualy thinking of this?

Coal to gasoline manufacturing processes would give us enough gasoline to last many decades. Half of all mined coal is thrown out because it is low-energy coal that cannot be used in power plants. Imagine - half of all the coal ever minded for power plants. That's a lot of chemical energy.

And yes, conversion would be a nearly impossible process, unless the government forced it by either heavily taxing gasoline (like they're not already) or giving big tax benefits to those who own a converted vehicle.

Umm what if in the future we found another power source? Like something within the depths of the earth.
That could happen. I mean we found lots of ways to power things. I could not name them all. And I do not feel like making a list. Actually I will try.

Oil(To make gas)

Natural Gas

Coal

Solar Power

Ummmm I cannot really remember anymore :) I am on summer vacation I really do not think about these things! :P

There is practically only one type of energy that we use - mechanical energy to electric energy. Nuclear power plants, coal power plants, natural gas plants, etc. all heat water that boils, releasing steam and then moving at turbine which then generates electricity. Wind power and water power have the turbine moved directly. One of the few exceptions is solar power, which converts the energy of photons into electric energy, although it is, in most cases, rather inefficient (the most efficient way is to use the sun to boil water which then evaporates and turns a turbine, as is the case with almost all power plants).

And as for finding a new power source in the Earth, I wouldn't count on it. We pretty much know what's inside the Earth. The chances of finding a power source (as in a material that we can use for power - not thermal power) is highly unlikely.

Well, you reminded me of something, they are going to start building greenhouses, the air inside gets really hot, it rises up a humungous tunnel (tunnel is standing up) and inside the tunnel it has like 9 turbines, it doesnt have greenhouse gases and stuff, and it stores some hot air for when sun isnt out, it makes trillions of watts of power every minute.

Sounds like an excellent renewable source of energy, although I'm surprised that water vapor alone is enough to force a turbine to rotate. I would imagine that it would need more pressure than what little evaporation would provide.

I say they will be used for one thing and one thing only! WAR!!! The jetpack will just become part of the miletarys attire! So i hope that all plans for the jetpack in the future will fail!!!
