if anything is worth anything then you can gaurantee the person giving it away isnt getting something in return. i dont go in for this giveaway stuff because everything thry give away is rubbish.

you could get better freeware

Advice: Megagames - For shareware games

CNet - For all downloads you can imagine

I big to differ, some of the more useful software they give away is great If you check out some of my reviews on the on gaming software you be surprise what your missing. Yeah I agree some of the free software is junk, like this current one free software the Desktop Icon Toy, wow a program that makes your desktop icons into shapes oooh. Most of the games are ok so good replay value but again a lot of junk as well.

I donīt get it. Is this some kind of ads integrated in the forums in a sort of non-offensive way? Don't like it but if it helps to maintain Trap17, then it's alright.

The only ad you see with the giveaway is on the giveaway forum and that's it, so it's not annoying in the way and all that.

They provide screensavers, other times USEFULL programs - Some are not.

But it's a great idea in general - And funny nothing like this has been thought of before! I vote 4 stars because it has a few bugs..

I appreciate their effort to distribute commercial software as freeware but most of the time the software offered are not of the use of most of the audience.
So, I give it a 3.

I downloaded a program but couldn't even activate it until the free giveaway period was over.
Looks like a scam to me.

I lurve, lurve, lurve giveawayoftheday. I have at least three programs I got from there that I use regularly. I'm so glad this thread is here . . . It kinda surprised me to see it pinned. But yeah, it's true that the programs sometimes kinda suck . . . but there are some really good ones every now and then.

A great idea and a bad realisation. You can also get better alternatives for free on the web. I'd like to see Adobe and Microsoft products there, not some stupid BeeThink SpyDetector. They give away only screensavers, security stuff and office stuff. Nothing important. The games are also stupid. You can find better games done in Flash.

I rated this site with a 4 mostly because I do mind using commercial software (excluding games) because I prefer using free and open source software which I find much better. But I know that lots of people don't mind so it's a perfect site for them and developers of commercial software too who can give their software for free for 24 hrs so it'll gain popularity if it's good so he'll get the profit he wanted.

I found the Sothink software (.swf decompiler) one you were discussing in one thread and I was really happy and lucky to visit the site at the day when the giveway was held (31st of March) so this made me have a generally better opinion of this site because frankly almost 70% of the software and games they give are useless and would be better if they had an open-source license :)

Also I kinda find the layout of the site too whitey and kinda hurst my eyes.

I would rate it a 2. Most (if not all) of the software is for Windows, and I have yet to see a Linux application on there to download. Great resource if you run a Windows computer, but other then that you probably won't find much.

I would have to agree with you to a point...the software isn't always great, and more times than not Giveaway of the Day's offers are generally limited to a few typical software types (video conversion for sure). You wonder what they get in return...The companies giving away their software free for a day also are receiving free advertisement in the best way possible. You may lose to a few people who gain the entire software suite free (until they completely restore their computer or uninstall it), but they get people hooked on their product(s).
