Too bad that it works only in the UK. If you find that website that has SMS coverage all over the world, that would be awesome.
There is a possibility where we can create a topic where free SMS websites of all over the world countries can be listed for people who need to send an SMS somewhere.

If you have an iPod Touch, you could use Textfree to text. You get assigned your own number so people can text you. You can text both Textfree numbers and phone numbers. They are also adding a new feature where you can call people if you have a headset with a microphone that you can use.

There is no point of using these little text websites, because you can't receive a text message back, and also, you can use an instant messenger such as yahoo to send a text message to a cell phone, and then receive a response back also. My suggest would be to use yahoo messenger for free text messages. I have not used yahoo in a while, but the last time I check you could use it in order to send text messages to cell phones and also receive them. I used it a few years ago in order to communicate with friends and family. I used it the most to communicate with my cousin, and despite the fact that she didn't have yahoo messenger, and didn't know what it was, and didn't even have a yahoo account, she didn't need an account or to know what yahoo messenger was because I could still communicate with her by simply sending her cell phone a message. I have no reason to believe that yahoo would end that feature, so from what I know you can still use yahoo to message cell phones. There are also applications on cell phones now a days that allow customers to use their text messages on messenger applications. I think that is what I missed the most about my bill phone, which I lost last year. Now I am on a prepaid phone...pretty much used for emergencies and so that people can get in touch with me when I am not at home, out in the streets, or at school. But, when I had a bill phone that feature was available. And, if I didn't have a cell phone at all, bill or prepaid, and also no car, its good to know that I can text a family member for a ride while at school. I have both a prepaid cell phone and car now, but when I first start school I had neither, and I had to find a phone just to call a ride. I did have a lap top, and I guess I could have sent a text using yahoo in order to get a ride if I would have thought about it. But the point is that yahoo is a great messenger to use for sending text messages and it has worked well previously for me.

If you provide an email address, you can receive a text message back via email and then from there, you can create a conversation between you and whoever you are talking to. I personally use Textfree which gives me a number that people can text to and I can text them with from my Textfree number too. I do not need to use an email address to text to receive texts.
