Dear Members,

Today, I found out the culprit who was suspending our free web hosting accounts :-) It was no other than our OLD EPSILON server on which this forum was hosted. 10 days ago, we had shifted this forum to a new server with a FASTER Board and processor.

The old server had its CRON service active and services were still running on it. The old EPSILON server never got any NEW POSTS and hence, the credits did not increase. As a result, All members who got suspended on the old server were suspended on GAMMA (our free hosting server).

For security reasons, account suspending and un-suspending is done w/ a key. Hence, the free accounts suspended by the old server could not be un-suspended by the new server.

I figured this out today when I was going through the logs and checked the incoming connections on server GAMMA.

I have formated the old server now and also disabled all the services on it. The old server was kept active for security, incase the transfer failed or if we noticed any further issues. This accident also made me build a new script from scratch which processes all accounts. The new script is much more secure and very fast :-) It has many bug fixes as well.

I apologize for all the inconvenience few of our members had to go through. All things have been completely sorted now :-) Have a great Day and enjoy your hosting.

Regards

I hope you gave that server a big spanking OpaQue :) Could that also be the reason why the database did a 7 day rollback as well? Or no idea?

Nice job OpaQue!!! I didn't suffer any downtime, but all those that did I hope didn't leave. It's a good thing the files were saved. Great job!

Thank you :), I knew that there was something wrong when my hosting didn't come back, so I just waited...thank you for this! I'm sure all future, current, and old members will/do appreciate this work and effort put in on trap17's staff.

Since I have this stupid problem with inability to access my site from work, and Gamma server entirely, and when I saw my account was suspended but I had more than enough credits, I started worrying that maybe I was being suspended for violating TOS... The only problem with that, I do my best not to violate it... No illegal content, no porn, nothing... Just a plain personal site, with a couple of subdomains for my test projects...

Then I was relieved, when I saw this wasn't happening only to me, and then I figured it must be something with the system... But truth be told, I never expected this issue to be resolved this fast... I mean, many companies offering paid hosting won't react this quickly...

I'm a happy member for 3 years, and I'll continue to be as long as there is Trap17... I'll soon move my site to ComputingHost, and I know I will be a sattisfied customer for a looooong time :)

Way to go OpaQue, way to show those big hosting companies who's the boss :D

So, another trap17 mistery solved :) I must admit the topic title sounds funny. The evil old server, didn't want to die and tried to play its last card, and revenge against us.

bad server, bad... :D

hey i have a doubt , for security reasons you had kept the old server running and so was the problem arising regarding the account suspension , then why to format it ? Just Shutting Down the old server , wont it be a solution?

More over in future for any reference the old server might be of use.

Then why to format it ?

Good work OpQue!!!
So probably only those accounts got suspended whose credits were around 7 or less! (including me!!)
I live in a hostel n get access to the net very rarely (usually just once or twice a week) therefore my credits are always around 10! People with higher credit count must have not been affected at all.

Therefore it pays to have truckloads of credit in your account!!!

Maybe they want to reuse the old server, but don't have time to reconfigure it..
Faster to format? xD
