Dear Members,

In our ongoing efforts to make our services more reliable and simple, We have made an important DNS move for better uptime of our services. We request you to change your Primary Nameserver by logging into your Domain Control Panel. We regret the inconvenience due to this DNS move but this is very necessary for improving our DNS system.

Benefits of this move:-
  • Reduced DNS Failure (Especially North America)
  • Server at ThePlanet Datacenter.
  • Better Protection & Safety for DNS records.
  • Incase of any server failure in our cluster, DNS will not fail.
  • Seperate Server for DNS to help us handle DDOS attacks in peace :-)
Trap17.com
Members having SUB-DOMAINS i.e. xxxxxxxx.trap17.com need not worry about this update.
Members having Domains need to change the Nameservers as mentioned :-
Change:
NS1.TRAP17.COM => 64.69.35.170
To:
NS.COMPUTINGHOST.COM => 67.19.253.52
Change:
NS2.TRAP17.COM => 64.69.35.177
To:
NS2.COMPUTINGHOST.COM => 64.69.35.177

Thank you for your support and co-operation.

Sincerely,

Shridhar M. Pare
Owner / Founder

I went to Network Solutions and tried to change it and got this

Host name invalid.

Invalid character(s) or format entered. Use only alphanumeric and dash (-) between dots

Name Server 1: Select from existing name servers:NS1.TRAP17.COM
NS2.TRAP17.COM
Host name invalid.

Invalid character(s) or format entered. Use only alphanumeric and dash (-) between dots

Name Server 2: Select from existing name servers:NS1.TRAP17.COM

I had changed the NS1.trap17.com to NS.COMPUTINGHOST.COM => 67.19.253.52
and the second to NS2.COMPUTINGHOST.COM => 64.69.35.177

Really? How odd. GoDaddy won't let me do it like that, but since I haven't been able to access cpanel yet it's not exactly a huge deal. Is there any reason it's not following normal conventions?

Thanks Opaque for continuing to improve the Service and Features here at the Trap17.

I have a question about this nameserver Change process:

Should this nameserver change be done for add-on and Parked Domains?

This is great! As always, OpaQue and Trap17 keep bringing us great stuff every once in a while... This is just great...

I have one question though (and it may be stupid and retarded):

I have a TLD (.net), and I used "Change domain" option here on Trap17 (www.trap17.com/manage) (actuallt BuffaloHELP helped me with that, thanks!)... Now, how do I change nameservers? Is there some section here on Trap17 management system, that will let me edit my DNS records? I registered through a reseller (my ISP actualy), and they don't provide control panel for domains, that are not hosted with them, they say I must edit my records here, on Trap17, but I haven't seen such an option...

Can someone help? How DO I change my name servers for the domain I own/

Yes, you will have to make the changes for the parked, add-on and Parked domains :)

Galahad, I am a bit confused by your question, to get your nameservers changed to the new one all that you have to do is ask your domain registrar ( the company that registered your domain) ask them to change the nameservers, The Ip address of the nameservers are not needed

If your domain is registered through XiDomains then please send an email to our support department at SUPPORT AT TRAP17 DOT COM and I will change the nameservers :)

A little small problem I had was changing the nameservers. With a lot of domain registrants you can't have IP nameservers. This includes xidomain.com How do we work around it?
IP address is required by very hosts. They operate through NS Name itself. So, with registrars like XiDomains, ignore IP. You need not enter it.

I have a few questions; how long do we actually have to change this?

If we do not change this, then will our sites stop working?

It's good that trap17 are still continuing to improve their services and are devoted to us.

I have Plan 3S with ComputingHost. I do not know where I am supposed to go to update my nameservers. I the Client Login, I can check and see what these are currently, but I have no option to change this. Is this in CPanel? Is there another administration area that I am not aware of?

Nameserver Changes need to be done at the spot where you Purchased or Registered your Domain Name.
Example: GoDaddy, Yahoo, Xidomains, etc. There * should * be a place to unlock the Domain and modify the Nameserver Information.

Change the information as per above.

darn! :o i am using a uni.cc "domain" (well, it's technically a subdomain but with DNS features), which i acquired 4 years ago using now-defunct email addresses (a yahoo primary address and a lycos.co.uk secondary address, both of which had since ceased to exist since i didn't regularly check them after moving on to gmail). this advisory was a regal shocker since i now have no idea what my uni.cc login details are, and a lost password retrieval option is out of the question, not with dead email addresses!!! :(

since i didn't keep track of my uni.cc login details, i have to do several trial and errors to remember my login and password. i'll keep my fingers crossed that i will be able to shake my gray brain cells and succeed in remembering a lost 4-year old uni.cc-related memory, and subsequently make the nameserver changes in time....

speaking of time, when will the old nameservers (ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com) cease to function???

kindly give us a timetable opaque/velma. thanks! :D i will post an update by the time i can crack my head open with regards to my uni.cc problem. :(

---

update:
i finally figured out my uni.cc login details, and successfully implemented the nameserver changes on my end. :D phew! that was a close call :( i was beginning to dread the possibility i had to change domains altogether. :( anyway, i think the question on the timetable i posited above is still a valid question/concern for all others who are still to make their own DNS changes.

Either I just swallowed a placebo or my website is loading faster after initiating the namesaver change to computinghost. What I'm trying to say is, my readers and I appreciate the effect this upgrade has already had on my site. And I certainly look forward to the prospect of increased security and uptime.

Keep up the great work, Opaque, and thank you for continuing to offer world class web-hosting at a price that literally can't be beat!

If you do not change it, your site will stop working in future without notice because of any DNS changes we might take from our end. The new nameservers are the only nameservers which will be up-to-date with the information it needs to have about your website.

This update does not affect sub-domains :o

If this site is registered by ComputingHost.com, you will have a login to XiDomains to change your NS. (if you don't, send us a ticket with your domain name. We will change and send you the login details)

If your site has been registered by some other third party domain registrar, Please login to their Control panel and make the nameserver change as requested :D

Usually DNS updates get the site down for atleast 5-6 hours. Thanks to the expertise of my team, we developed a script to add extra DNS extries for Nameservers so that, your site has 0 downtime.

The difference thats going to happen now is, your initial request of Webpage would be answered by the server at ThePlanet which is highly optimized for US/UK Traffic. After this, you will be bought to our server.

This update should affect the look-up time + reliability of our Nameservers.

So how long will this update take to finish? I have a hosting request being processed and someone told me that the nameserver update was delaying them.

Well in your case it would be instant since your not hosted nor do you have a domain that is pointed to the new name servers. Of course if you do purchase a domain outside the xisto network it takes up to 72 hours for your domain to be fully integrated with your hosting account.
