I have came across people making a living by selling stuff on ebay. They just work from home. Maybe if you got interesting stuffs you can set up an account to sell it. It's the easiest way for a start. If you do web portals... then your content must be solidly good before you get people visit your site again and again. try to concentrate on only 1 or 2 area with a target audience in mind, e.g kids, games, dating.... etc.

When we were desperate, we made $2,000-$4,000 a month on eBay (did that for almost 3 years). Everything we sold came from garage sales. We had a garage sale of our own to get the money to start with, so it never cost us one penny to start our business.

The downside is that we worked our tails off to do it. I spent up to 16 hours a day at the computer and my husband just about ruined himself boxing up huge exercise machines and other heavy stuff for shipping. Between us we probably worked at least 120 hours a week. I even worked on Christmas Day. ;)

You are the same as me. I never want to give out revelaing information to a random website who could go and sell it for $20 on Ebay! ;)

I use a PO Box for the address and NEVER give out my phone #. If they reject me for the phone # and I really want to sign up, I make something up. Only eBay and PayPal have my real phone number.

The Tax ID thing is scary. If you don't have one, you have to use your SSN. That's an invitation to identity theft, so it should only go to somebody you really trust. :P

Giving your account number or credit card number is the biggest problem on the net. There are some who make up sites just to cheat people of their money and they disappear. As it is said easy come easy go. :D

$50 a click!? :D  That's rubbish. What if some high traffic website displays the ad? The company will do bankrupt in its advertising campaign itself.

there are some ads that are worth MORE than $50 a click. One keyword relates to medical lawsuits and is was worth something around $80 a click. The thing with those ads is that they are not displayed ALL the time.

For higher paying ads, those might only be displayed a few times a day. So they may not get clicked a lot. Also, Google implemented a thing called smart pricing which reduces the payout to the publisher if the click did not convert. For example, they may measure how long a visitor stays on the site after they clicked to it.

Those high paying clicks are totally real becuase I am opened an ADWORDS account just to check to see what the bid prices were for some keywords I am intersted in. Also, there are MANY people out there creating medical type websites JUST because they are such high paying keywords.

Hi:

Back to the issue of tax ID or social security number. I am not an accountant or in the finance industry, so this is just my lay opinion. My understanding of the situation is as follows: Any money you earn from a site is taxable. It is income. As such, the federal government can tax it. Some sites therefore want your tax identification number or social security number so that they can report your earnings to the federal government. And then the federal government knows what you have earned, and can track it. Also they can do a form reporting your income.
