I believe there are a lot of guys in India who are good at this. I really don't understand how a company could hire someone who does not have a clue of what he is required to do. Anyway I don't think it will take you more than a couple of days to learn the basics of SEO. I wonder what you'll be doing after you have driven your site to maybe the top 5. Are you going to keep working until it's in Top 1 and then leave the company? What else do you do?

It may be a good idea to have a look at google adwords first as this will help you get your website listed at the top of google almost instantly. Just remember this costs money and it will be worth while reading up all about this in the google addwords tutorials. They are very simple to follow as they have video clips that explain everything. here's the link http://www.google.co...learningcenter/

First of all you will need to get links from reputable websites into your website, so find out who the webmasters are of the websites you intend on getting linked to your site. Usually they will ask you for a link to their site in return. So find some good websites preferably in the same industry.

Second of all you will need good content on your website, if your website has the most useful information on the topic that the person is searching for your website will come up first. The more useful information the better.

Also stay away from putting hidden text on your website to improve your SEO, google catches onto this and your rankings will drop quickly.

A good Idea would also be to find web listing directories and add your website to their lists, some you will need to subscribe to but they don't cost a lot, only a couple of dollars a year.

Good luck :)

I will introduce "funny SEO technique."

In the below blog
http://blogs.yahoo.c...n/20429154.html

The author of the blog said that (in Japanese)
We may not make "Social Bookmarks to her blog" nor make "Thumbnails of her blog"

But in spite of (?) her messages, many links have been extended to her blog so the above is.

To collect links from other sites, you have only to write "NO LINKS to my site(blog)." :)

As far as I understand, the only way to get good seo ranking
is to pay for it.Using good keyworrds helps very little.
Submitting to web directories also does very little.
Get some cash together,a lot of it and pay off google.msn.yahoo etc.

SEO is very vital.

I now know the basics but as you all know you have to choose one way then wait for some months before you change em to see if they're helping you or not right.

I am currently designing a new site..my last wasnt so successful because my SEO was poor but i got a database of users to start with!

Please NEVER underrate SEO..it improves your traffic tremendously.

Sorry to say but in India, Students get recruited based on their performance in aptitude tests instead of how much they've knowledge in the domain. "Nepotism & vague aptitude tests" are responsible for placing wrong person in wrong job. Thats why such things happen. You can even see plenty of students who toped university for computer science in India but can't program in C/C++. It happens in India. Sorry for out of topic and criticism.

Coming back to topic.

There are plenty of blogs that give useful information about SEO. You can even purchase some good books/ebooks in this topic. But do keep in mind that as web is changing rapidly plenty of techniques that works 1 year before will not work anymore.

1) Read SEObook archieve here Some good advice at absolutely no cost.
2) SEOmoz & SEO consultants are good as well.

Other than that search for SEO content on article directories. If possible try and attend SEO webminars. There are plenty of videos on SEO topic, you've to search for the same.

SEO is a very important part in getting websites up to the top spots, and I've managed to do that a little with my previous website, but it is not easy.

I did it all 100% free as well, I did not pay anyone or any companies to do any of the work for me. Nor did I pay for any advertising.

For a very small gaming community based on a certain group of people, I was getting ~150-200 visitors a month that I did not know, so I guess I did a decent job at it.

But I could use a lot more information as well. The hardest part I find is getting sitemaps up. How could you make a sitemap with something like a CMS?

I hate to sound like a cynic.

Everyone talks about google adwords, but that is only beneficial if
you allready have many visitors to your site. It's a bit like putting the
cart before the horse so to speak.

And fine,so you do optimize your page with title and meta tags to it's
best possible seo optimization. The problem is there are hundreds,
if not thousands of competing sites who have also done this, and
because they have money to pay the search engines, they will always rank
higher than you.
So how do you stand out?Having a really original unique site that people really
want to see, is the ticket and only hope.

That is what I'm going to try and do.Add that little something that other sites just don't have, but god,it's time consuming and a lot of work.

Well, I'm the webmaster of a company and I built our site practically from scratch and today it has excellent positions in Google. The key? No SEO! Content! That's the key to getting good ranks in search engines. Make good, useful contents for your visitors and you'll get good ranks. I've been updating almost everyday the site for 9 years and never paid a cent for SEO. But... well... in your case I think you better not tell :P or offer them your services as content creator :P

P.S.
I think I'll start posting some of the stuff I know in the Internet forum!

I disagree very strongly with that. you must have SEO on your site in some form. Meta tags keywords and most of all a good and clear discription of your site. That is the MOST inportant thing in any SEO.

Hello,
Well, it’s actually simple…SEO is the use of techniques that help to optimize the results of searches done online. SEO is just one way of doing internet marketing. The term internet marketing encompasses SEO and many more marketing techniques. While SEO is extremely important, it isn’t the entire story when it comes to getting your website noticed.
If you have an online business, it’s important to create a marketing plan. Many people think they need a large budget to make a marketing plan, but that isn’t always true. Many internet marketing strategies are affordable and easy to do.

thanks!!

! you have just digged a two year old topic so first of all if anyone wants to start with seo thing there is a big related topic which "anwii" has created with many nice information : http://www.knowledge...748-how-to-seo/

i will mention some very simple tips. one of the most important things is the software you choose to base your website on. if you want to have a dynamic website with some news and introducing things on it then you will go for a cms. in the cmses i can say now one of the most seo friendly ones is wordpress so if you do not to learn seo completely from beginning you can just start your website based on a seo friendly cms and then it will do about 70% of the job but those 30% is only for professional users which know exactly every corner of seo road.

if you want to start a forum then you will choose between IPB , VB , mybb , phpbb , smf , ... then i should say all of these are nearly same in seo thing. and most of them are not seo friendly native but you can make them more seo friendly with some plugins. when it comes to plugins then its better for you to choose between VB and IPB because these two have a wide range of plugins for making them more seo friendly.

if you want to sell anything then you should go to anwii's topic because i don't know much about commercial websites because all of websites that i own right now are not commercial. and in the end i should say if your website got enough visitors per day then you should not worry at all because every thing you put on your website will be searchable in google just within a minute (just like here).

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is a process where you try to optimize your site with specific content matching what someone on google, for example, would be searching for. The more google feels your site is relevant to what the search is, the more frequent your site will be found and the more traffic you will receive.

Several factors go into place and im sure these are all things you will learn on the job. Good luck!
