How To Extract The Audio From YouTube Videos

This lovely simple tutorial will tell you how to extract the audio from YouTube videos. Obviously, I am not in any way advocating that you take copyrighted music that is available illegally in video-form on YouTube and extract the audio from those videos rather than going down to HMV and buying the music.

In this tutorial I will be using the following video:

http://uk.youtube.co...h?v=gUhhRc5eWNw

Firstly, you download the video, which is simple. Just go to www.downloadyoutubevideos.com and paste the video URL into the text box. Follow the instructions and save the file as myvid.flv. Now you have a relatively useless .flv file, from which you will extract the audio. To do this, you will need a truly amazing program called AOA Audio Extractor. Just run the file through the program and it will produce an MP3.

Just to prove this process works, here's the audio from the above video.

Or you can just download and install vixy and type the url into the program and select MP3. Much faster...

I tell ya, the easiest way is to download the FLV in any way you want and use a flash converter (google FLV to MP3 converter) and it just turns it into MP3, of course stripping the video content out and preserving just the audio.

There are so many ways to do this that this thread could get very long...

Linux users can install Avidemux to do the conversion from flv to mp3.

Of course, you need to download the flv from Youtube. I would suggest a Firefox Add-on named Download Helper for that.
