If I buy a domain using my myCENTs, will I be able to hide my personal info, like other registerars (sp) allow people to do? Thanks!

Very good question, actually. I didn't even know that you could hide that information. Always thought that information has to be transparent because it's like you showing your authority on your website. Otherwise when people look you're just like a random person.

I know name.com lets you hide it for free. I also think that it is illegal to put in false info..

It's illegal to provide false credit card information (fraud), but not really illegal just to put "None" or some "fake" details for your address etc. I put "None" in all the time when I register at something and it asks me to enter my address information. It is quite ideal if you don't want sites knowing your address information of where you live too.

And it never gets you into trouble. It's not illegal, so Police, FBI etc can't do anything to you.

I wouldn't think so because the xidomains would take your contact infor you have in the billing and auto fill that information as if you were buying the domain individually. So you could keep your contact info blank or fill it with n/a or blank or something like that to hide your information.

That's a good idea. I would rather not have people staking me and sending me mail all the time about how they want to buy my website for $XX,XXX.

What are the chances that people would really go through the work of tracing you down just to harass you like that?

It's not that hard to find most owners of websites anyways as most use the same usernames, emails, etc. on other sites, or they just post their contact information right there on the website.

Honestly if I was looking for information on something I would much rather go to a site where all of that information is listed publicly than one where it's hidden. It just gives the satisfaction of knowing that the person is transparent.

It's not technically illegal, but you are likely to lose your domain. You are required by the rules of domain registration to make sure that there are valid contact details available at all times for your domain. Putting "None" in all the boxes doesn't really help.

Actually many people would if they really want to buy the domain. When the movie came out, the owner of cloverfield.com got so many emails,, I heard he was trying to get thousands for the website.

Would Trap17 take it away? Even if I were to put in my correct details, and have them mask it, would that be ok?

I don't think it's up to trap17 to do that. I think ICANN is the one who removes your website if you do not provide information that is accurate.
