Here is a list of domains name extentions that are free

www.cjb.net
www.tk
co.nr
nic.biz.ly
noip.com
www.st

The cjb domains are instant and work like a real domain or you can use the forwarding system.

nic.biz.ly yourname.biz.ly

.tk uses ads and I don't like forced ads.

.st I have never really used it so I don't know about it but I am going to try it.

Thanks

I have tried cjb.net, i dont really like it that much, but that was a long time ago.
tk, i have never tried but i dont like forced ads either.
The other i havent tried, but i think if any i might try the st one.

But for the time being i am going to stick with the trap17.com one. i dont mind it, plus it shows who my host is. I wont change that until i get a regular .com.

You forgot www.uni.cc
Althought uni.cc does have quite a good redirection service... it DNS services sucks.

It takes like 6 days for the domain to propergate and only takes cjb.net and no-ip.com 5 MINUTES to propergate...

And right now, uni.cc doesn't even offer DNS service! It wants to so called upgrade it's servers...

And what's the .st thing? That's not even a valid domain! I even googled it but it still doesn't work!

Oh yah... you can get .net.tc and .net.tf redirections in a service... just search in google (I forgot the URL to the site...)

Yup, I'm so wary of cjb.net domains... usually they have multiple pop-ups.

The .st one sounds interesting, haven't seen it being used before.

Try out registering for a free domain at www.1dni.com

They provide a very good service! I'm sure that you are going to love it!

And also, .info domains that can change the NS is much more good that the cjb, uni.cc, etc domains. :P

If you use the cjb DNS feature, you don't get any ads! That's because you're using a domain IP redirection! Unlike the redirection, you don't get any ads and the service provider can't put any ads (at least, that's what I think!). So finally, you can't go wrong with using cjb.net, even if I DO prefer uni.cc :P

Hummz, the 6 days is probably cuz you live somewhere very far abroad, because with me it takes about 3 hours... :S
But since domains are really cheap, why dont you just buy a domain? (loks more pro anyway)

at 1dni.com you can get a free .info domain now (up to 25) don't know if it's still going, but it's worth the try....
all you have to do is get a support account, and send an e-mail to some e-mail address to get a free #rin, use that #rin as your credit card number at the registration forum .

Do using any of these free domains cause pop-ups/ads to appear like when using .tk?

not at all, at 1dni i just got a top level domain (only .info is free!) and it works fine!
www.marcb.info will be the one i have hosted here, no content yet tho, but it works :P
for one year its free, after that you should take a different domain, buy the .info domain, or just use a subdomain here at trap17
i have full control over the domain, including: my information, about admin etc, nameservers, dns-plus (whatever it is) and some more, works fine!
.tk gives popups, but it's a short name, you can have anything.tk
www.dot.tk for more information.
.net.tc - .net.tt - .us.tt and all those have probably pop-ups or banners.
