Have you heard about Google Knol? It's a service launcged by Google some time back to compete wikipedia.

Yes, we heard of it, we had whole threads about it, where people were saying that it's going to kill Wikipedia, that Wiki will be no match for this and Google will own them bla bla.

Of course, that was about 1 or 2 months ago. Knol is even more anonymous now than it was then and I love Wikipedia more and more everyday

There is no way google can overtake wikipedia with wikis, just like there is no way microsoft can overtake google with searching.
Wikipedia is just too well known, and specialised, to be overtaken by a company making a small version to increase traffic a bit.

Hmmm, I agree there is no way google can overtake, but google has an advantage. As you told google is the no.1 search engine out there. So, when you search for something in google (most people do), it can put its Knol result as first one in the list. So, it can compete very well with Wikipedia...

Hello!

I have never heard about it, thanks for the informations, looks pretty interesting.
This is eventually going to one day surpass wikipedia, since it is made by Google, or Google will even buy wikipedia, so we will see in future.

Eventually, it will take some time, since wikipedia was all made by their users that has some informations to add (and not always good one lol ) but the future will say the answer!
