Trap17 Forums is now powered by Revenue Sharing Engine. This means, We will be showing ads on our forums and you take the share of the revenue earned. Advertisements are text-links and I am sure this would be the most profitable type of ads which are clean and pleasant to the user. The revenue is earned on click basis. Kontera and Xisto have partnered to provide this solution. They know about this service and they have accepted to sponsor our forums through our revenue sharing engine. :D

Using your Revenue Sharing Control inside MyControls section of forums, Update your PUBLISHER CODE at Kontera (which requires sign-up with their Service) and the color of the AD-Links. However, you will not be allowed to view your own ad to prevent accidental clicks. :P

The best way to earn revenue would be by starting Unique Topics which are not only NEW to us but also new to the Web. We encourage you to spread your topic links and attract good traffic to your articles. We suggest the following to make the most of this ad-revenue system :-

  • Choose your Title & Description carefully. Make them as RELEVANT & INFORMATIVE compared to your Content/Post as possible.
  • Make posts filled with lot of valuable content.
  • Spread the links of your articles.
  • Subscribe to your Topics to get alerts for any Replies.
  • Use your Signature to Popularize your most important Articles on Trap17
  • If you can give a lot of Original and Detailed information about a certain topic, Consider making a new Topic!
  • Avoid SPAMMING at all costs. The WARNS/BANS will prove you very expensive!

Our TextLink Ads are displayed based on the following probability:
  • Percentage of time site owner's ads will display: 1% :)

  • Percentage of time topic starter's ads will display: 39% :)

  • Percentage of time last poster's ads will display: 1%

  • Percentage of time any other poster's ads will display: 59%

More information:

Advertisements are presently visible to Logged in members and Guests. And only the advertisements shown on the Topic Pages are shared. The rest of the pages are not shared. (eg. Forum Index, Gallery etc) The Banner Ad (not link ads) shown on Trap17 (to guests) are not a part of this Revenue sharing program.

Important Point: No Ads are shown on the sites hosted by Trap17/ComputingHost.com. This topic considers only the Ads displayed on this forum.

We welcome all contributing members to update your PUBLISHER CODE and grab your share of revenue by forum advertisements. Further instructions are explained in the link above :-)

The present Credit System is not affected due to this upgrade and is independent of this new revenue sharing service offered by us. We wish to see lot of joy & smiles coming this new year!

Warmest Regards,

Trap17 Team!

I think this is a pretty cool idea. I guess this makes the tags for the page very important as well now seeing as the ads will probably be based off them as well and the more people that come to the page the better chance they will click the ads. Great work OpaQue, always finding new features that benefit all. :) That's why I love this place.

Yes.....very great idea. No other forum has these type of excitement features and surprises. Trap17 is great. Even though I have small doubts regarding this adrevenue sharing, I had already registered at Kontera and saved my pubisher id in Advertising Settings at MyControls. Let us wait and see how it works... :)

When you are not viewing a topic, any ads displayed will belong to the site administrator. However, when you are viewing a topic, we will shuffle between the site administrator's ads, and the ad accounts of the topic starter, last poster, and other posters based on a probability factor.

Does it mean I'll get revenue only when I'm online and viewing that particular topic? (ofcourse only if someone clicked the link) and I should have a post in that topic, to show ads with my publisher id? And if I'm offline...no ads with my id?

Oh I didn't pick up on that which xpress quoted - could we get some clarification on that? My interpretation is that it means user-linked ads are only for the forum threads, and not for other pages such as the home page. Is this correct?

(PS: this post is me xpressing what I'm thinking and is not so I can be last poster :) )

Very clever, OpaQue! You get money for displaying the ads and part of that goes to us, which benifits all 3 parties. I like that. Great work!

This could be almost as a second incentive for posting on the Trap17 forums which makes the Credit System more useful than it already is. Its easy too, just enter information and wait for text link to appear.

Thank you, OpaQue. You're a good and clever leader, as always :)

Interesting idea, and now people will stop posting their referral links :), but of course now trap17 members will have a source of income to help pay for their hosting to help cover the costs with the use of Mycents. So it should be interesting if anyone makes a profit from this, but the one problem I will see thought is that eventually the forum will be one giant link, but odds are the mod that was used to set this up is customizable to prevent that. Either way it should be interesting how this ad revenue works out.

Well does anybody know how Kontera pays out? Just by looking at their site, it seems as if they only pay via checks through the mail. Does anybody know if they payout via paypal at all?

Well, another problem I was thinking of is what are the odds of members clicking on their own links when they show up? The reason I ask that I look at their knowledge base and they frown upon clicking your own links and stuff like that.

Yes...Thats also a point to notice. But we don't know whose ads are displaying at that moment. They may be ours or some other posters or may be the site owners....they display randomly as per the calculations OpaQue made, I think.

But seeing as we input a colour for our links, you should probably be able to spot your links via the colour! Maybe we shouldn't be able to pick the colour? =|

edit) hey! you sneakily changed the percentages!

Also a question: Since not all the users here are going to use this (for example all the users that haven't been around for years but still have posts in old threads), if they are the last poster or topic starter, does the ad displayed belong to the site admins? And in the case of a 'random poster', does it pick a random poster with an account for the advertisements, or would it pick an arbitrary poster and have the ad linked to the administrator if they do not have a specified publisher ID?
