I believe you would need to contact an outside company that deals with this sort of functionality. Which companies they are depends on which country you are in. The alternative is to directly contact the mobile networks to ask for help.

Whichever method you choose, offering it free will be very difficult. You will likely need to pay a monthly/yearly fee, and probably a small fee per message. The only way to cover these costs would be colossal advertising, or using the SMSs to drive people towards a much more profitable functionality of your site.

I you do manage to set it up, make sure you pay very strict attention to user activity.

You will need a lot of servers..with good bandwidth, you do not want server overload when users want to send texts.

Check out this free one that i came across http://www.wapamama.com

Wow thanks! I had no idea that a OSS project with this goal existed. I'm really grateful.

As to the OP, you'll first need a great hosting, a nice and catchy domain so peeps can remember it and pass it on and most importantly you'll need the inside courage and love to the project you will make, because there isn't a possibility (or there is some that I don't know of) that you'll give them free SMS's for free, right? So, if you make profit from it, you must get into the job :P

As for scripts, I believe puneye already found the one you need :D

An API is a way for scripts to communicate with one another - it sets out the commands and functions you have to call to make it work. The API will be different for every provider, so you will need to read through their help documentation in detail to make sure you write the code correctly.

Some offer the ability to send SMSs via an email. You send an email to their server in a certain format, and their server converts that into an SMS to send on. That means you don't have to work with their API, but you need to make sure you format the emails correctly.

Providing such services, would spend a lot of money. If you can not earn money from other people or company,it can not exist longer.I suggest you must consider much carefully before you provide a sms sending website to all.If you have a success, please tell me your website,i would like to visit it,hehe :P

Sincerely:)

Good luck to you! :D

SMS Web Sites on Web Sites can be a good way to How To Setup A Sms Sending Website........

Looking at http://www.Empowermessaging.Com you can capture a mobile number into your loyalty database of your web site and using the Empowermessaging.com or their http apis you can sent the punter a vcard with you companies details.

Make sure you put a captcha on your page to stop bots from costing you money, record their mobile into a list or db, a check box to terms and conditions enabling you to send sms to get around any anti spam complications.

Good luck well worth it

Let me try and answer your questions.

Do you need to receive SMS? If you need to receive SMS, you will need to host your own GSM device or modem so that people can send you SMS.

If not, you can just use internet SMS gateways like clickatell to do the work, and post to them by HTTP, XML or email. The cost is about 6-8 cents per SMS. There are cheaper services, but not always reliable. If you need to host your own GSM device, you can use software like http://www.kannel.org (GPL Open Source) or http://visualtron.co...ise/sms-gateway.
