Hello...

I've been absent for quite a while :/

But now, I'm back and I'm better than I was 3 seconds ago...

Anyways...

I know that Trap17 forbids hosting of IRC servers...

However...

For example, I have a irc server at, lets say... irc.example.com, and I get some random java-based IRC client, and upload it to Trap17, so that it connects to irc.example.com... Would this be allowed?

I get your point. Yes, Java based client running through browser window connecting to IRC taking permission from the client to access it should do fine. However, What port will the JAVA try to connect and what permissions will your application seek from user is the qEsTiOn?

While we are on this topic...I noticed you're asking the port. Is the reason that hosting IRC here is not allowed because the port is closed?

And if so, does that mean that using VPS or dedicated servers it would be fine to host IRC? Or is that where it is disallowed?

It'll connect through port 6667...

Not sure what you mean by permissions... Do you mean that i.e. Only 'registered' users can use it, or something :/
