You can also use AIM to send texts or SMS messages in the USA also, there are other options as well, if you want to send messages from your own phone number, like Google Voice, or Skype.

Dear friends there are many of such sites now and one of them which I regularly use is way2sms.com and I feel its easy to use and 100 % free. If we google for free sms then we can get many as such.
