dont really know if this is too relevant or not but if you paid antivirus has run out or your not happy with your current one I tend to install Avira AntiVir Personal, which is the free vesion its not a bad one either although it will not cover email scanning although most email providers include their own. the direct link for it is

if your machine has AVG already installed its not worth he hastle of removing it to install Avir, another nice free program is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, however the free version has no real-time protection but its quite quick on the scanning so I tnd to do the scan every day or so
