The un-official KnowledgeSutra IRC is now up! Continue reading for complete details!

IRC stands for ''Internet Relay Chat'' it's a server that you can connect to from any IRC client! this is a new way to get help and have fun!
IRC clients are very light, use almost no computer resources and run in the background, un-noticed until you're ready to use it.
This will be an alternative to the shoutbox, it will be a new way to discuss in real-time chat without having to log into the forums.

IRC Administrator - Soviet Rathe

  • If you already have an IRC client installed you can copy and paste this into your browser's address bar: irc://hub.dab.biz/knowledgesutra
If you don't have an IRC client and are running windows you can download YChat which is a 100% free alternative to xchat.
If you are running linux or ubuntu, you can get XChat for free!
sudo apt-get install xchat or look for a linux distro of XChat
If you have problems setting up or connecting your IRC client you can refer to this tutorial which applies to both XChat and YChat.
If all else fails or you just don't want to install a client you can use the web based client click here

Note: hosting irc servers is still banned from xisto, ComputingHost, and all other services related to xisto, this irc is in no way hosted, or affiliated with xisto servers.

All knowledgesutra mode and admins will get ops on the channel after they verify their identity.
You may see some of the normal KnowledgeSutra members with ops, these are highly trusted members who are helping run the IRC.

  • Idea's - Things to be announced later:
Trivia night - Trivia night's will be hosted, other news about this will be announced.
More bot features - I'm working on a custom bot that will be fetching info from the forums and updating them in the IRC - among other things.
Domain - replacing the current domain to one that suits Knowledgesutra.

Have fun! :)

ADMINISTRATOR NOTE: We do our level best to use all available technologies on the web to present our data and ''communication services'' in the safest and best possible manner. SHOUTING and Chatting is fun and we have a CHAT feature on TOP menubar of KS, powered by Java Technology which runs within your chosen browser.

IRC is just another medium to communicate and Its necessary users understand IRC before using it. Please check your Computer Firewall is ON and you have installed an up-to-date AntiVirus Software, at any cost.

IRC chat is not OFFICIALLY monitored by our chosen moderators on this discussion forum. Hence, its an un-official communication Channel of KS.

We don't need an IRC anymore, the new ChatRoom is working fine and actually its way better than the ShoutBOX we had before. I really don't have any complaints about it except that you can't post and chat at the same time, though you can hear the sounds of new shouts. I don't think we desperately need an IRC anymore :)

well actually the IRC will be tied to the forums soon, I'm making a bot that will fetch new posts and announce them in the IRC :) an IRC is way more convenient then a bulky, browser based shoutbox, and you can have the client make sound when someone speaks.. just like the shout box :P

yes, i agree 100% and couldn't have said it better myself.

soviet- although unofficial, it has been made semi official when this thread was moved to the announcements. that's a given. you started something and now it's your responsibility to follow through, not give up, and make it a success. if you can't do this, then you will have less credibility in the future when people put their trust, faith, and support in you. i want to see great things come from this irc channel and i don't want to hear blaming that it's empty because the forums are empty. you started this to benefit the forum. not the other way around. so this will be a time to prove yourself and what you are capable of. you wanted the responsibility. i told you it will be a big one. now that you have what you asked for, what are you going to do with it? amaze us, soviet. with the ambition and dedication that i see from you, i know you have it in yourself but it's not going to be easy.

I'm having trouble with my internet the past few days but will return to the IRC chat to stay when I get it fixed. The IRC is *much* better than the chat. you don't have to have a resource hogging web browser open. You can log on however you want.. mirC, xchat, IrcII.. whatever is convenient. Hide it in the background and check it when you want. Plus Soviet installed a fun trivia game. It's addictive. Who knows what else is to come??

You're not really getting the 'full effect' by using the web based IRC anyway.

I couldn't have said it better myself, web browsers hogg too much resources and don't run in the background, face it.. you cannot keep a web browser open the entire time you're on the internet.
an IRC client however, can run un-noticed on your task bar and is at your fingertips when you need it, I've heard some people say that they like the sound feature of the webchat, well an IRC client can be customized any way you want to, you can have tray balloons, sounds etc. and by default, you get a notification when someone mentions your username in the chat! :P there's really no cons to an IRC but there are so many pros.
