Today, I went to turn on my ps2 and it didn't work. Everything's plugged in, I tried every outlet in the house. I even switched power cords!
The red light comes on, after I click it the green light comes on but then quickly turns back to red.
I'm determined to try to fix, so I opened it up and it looks like the switch ribbon( I think that's what its called) is broken.
Could that cause the problem? Or something else? Should I try replacing the switch ribbon?

Here's a couple pictures of what it looks like. What do you think?

The best thing to do would be to take it to a service center. If you're good at repairing such stuff yourself you could try ordering a replacement part. I just searched for "PS2 Switch Ribbon" in google and Amazon returned a result which costs $0.99. I dunno if it's the same thing you're talking about, though. I got a PS2 only recently so I'm not so experienced about it. You'd better wait for a better reply here if you want to do it on your own, but the easiest thing to do would be to get it repaired at a service center.

Not much of a Playstation hardware guru and so I would check out the Hardware forums at sony's website and see what people have to say.about it.

That ribbon I see nothing wrong with... I have modded systems before so I know how they should look and that bend is natural -- it is how it was designed.

As for your issue though, it is hard to say. I doubt it is with the power ribbon though. I would relate it more to the motherboard going out or something like that (since the system goes green/red I highly doubt it is the power supply).
