There are different ways to search the computer for a virus or a trojan horse. Windows 7 has an inbuilt program. And there are websites that scan the computer online to search for a virus. Other programs are available for free on the internet. Malware and Spybot seem to be programs that are free and work for a bit satisfactionally.

My favorite would have to be Avira AntiVir. Not only is it lightweight, it is free (which is a must for me) and is usually able to pick up almost anything in terms of viruses. Another good one to use would be AVG. This is also free.

I've Tested 3 antivir and here are my results :

1. Norton : this antivirus often comes by default on many notebooks but i don't understand why . i have tested it and i found that it's very resources hungry and very slow. i tested it with a autorun worm on my flash memory and norton found that worm but for cleaning it restarted my computer ! i don't suggest this antivirus because it's very slow.

2. Eset Smart Security : this one was very better less resource hungry and more faster in scanning and it cleaned my autorun worm very fast without any restart. but when i looked at the comparison chart in www.av-comparatives.org i decided to test avira.

3. Avira : yes this one is the best very fast in scanning and updating regulary without any problem . i'm currently using this antivirus and i haven't got any worm or virus yet :P .

I never found Avira as good antiirus maybe because i had issues with it before. It didn't scanned my USB drive and because of that it let those auto run virus inside the system. I do have alternate for these types of autorun viruses protection now. But i doubt if avira is improved on this. just saying..

I personally like Microsoft Security Essentials which is is quite light and free and seems to work well..

At my workplace, we use ESET Smart Security, which seems to do it's job quite, but it;s not free :P

Also, as I know malware bytes is good for trapping different spyware and etc. :)

Kaspersky antivirus seems to be one of the best antiviruses out here, very customizable and etc. but it seems to make your computer very hungry :D I mean it uses a lot of resources on the CPU and on the disk while working, even though it depends how you customize it, but also, it's quite expensive.

I've tested avast and avira and i think avast is just better. it's faster , more correct answers (the avira detects my own compiled sotware as trojan) and more updates.

Kaspersky is nice too i tested it's demo version and it's very stable and will not take so much ram at startup. Eset makes just problem for me , i don't know why but every time i install it , my pc begins to hang and response very slow. when i insert an infected flash memory to my pc avast kills the viruses very fast and there is no slowness but when i install eset the story goes very bad. pc hangs and flash memory read/wright led flashes constantly and if i wait for 10min i will see the unsuccessful deleting results.

If you want to remove any program if it's infected and making issues with OS or other softwares then i suggest getting a good uninstaller. For example if your antivirus is giving you trouble and you failed the uninstallation process. In that case softwares like revo uninstaller can help you get better results.

I prefer ESET SMART SECURITY.

Have been using it for about a year now and did a comparison with AVG, Eset knocks AVG out of the water.

But if you don't wanna pay for an Antivirus software, it's better to go with AVG free because it is well reviewed and recommended by others... AVG FREE Homepage

Malware Bytes usually gets rid of all of my viruses in one scan. I tend not to use it as much as I used to because I work with a lot of programs that report false positives to the antiviruses so I get confused as to whether or not a file that is detected by virus scanners are a safe file. One time I accidentally deleted a file through Malware Bytes that was crucial to a project that I was working on. If you do not work with false positives or do not even know what false positives are, I highly recommend that you use Malware Bytes on your computer.

If you want just a regular antivirus, I would recommend AVG or Avast. I really despise Norton and McAfee because they take up a lot of my CPU usage and RAM. I really prefer lightweight antiviruses that use less system resources. Norton and McAfee may be able to do a better job at detecting viruses at real time but in my opinion, I do not think that it is worth it.

you have McAfee antivirus installed and want to replace it with another antivirus product, but the uninstaller is broken. You go the control panel and add/remove programs, select mcafee and choose uninstall. Nothing happens. So, do you change your plans and stick with McAfee? You find the McAfee product removal tool and use that to remove McAfee from the system.

Unfortunately the way all software is packaged on windows it is not uncommon for the uninstaller to fail to completely remove the software. Fortunately, both Norton and McAfee offer removal tools for their software and during the course of my computer service work I have had to use these tools MULTIPLE times to either move to another antivirus vendor or to perform a clean reinstall of the antivirus product.

To clean out Symantec’s Norton antivirus products you’re looking for the Norton Removal Tool.

If you’re needing to clean out one of McAfee’s antivirus products you will need the McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool.

Avast has a removal tool as well and it’s address ishere.

The links above connect to the support pages at each respective site and do not link directly to the named tools.

For other products, if there is not a removal tool available it may be possible to reinstall the software (to repair the uninstall information), then to uninstall it.
