Is there a special Internet Police Department needed? Since internet crime and internet safety differ very much from old fashioned crime and things like bank robbery, car thefts and burgling a special police force especially trained and working on digital crime fighting might be a bit successfull. The advantages are that people know it exists. so the pure the existence of an internet police department can prevent some people from starting a crime. Another advantage is that victims know where to report what happened. And an Internet Police squad can gather knowledge. The Internet Police can address the internet hosts more easily, because the internet hosts and internet companies know the existence of the Internet Police. So they know that a request to block a website or some other action comes from a trusthworthy source.

I think this is a good idea. You could easily contact them for abuse or information theft. The only drawback is that, just like with the police, it won't stop people from committing the crime in the first place. People will still commit the crime. Some might even commit it just to prove they can!

Hummmm....this is a tough one for me. Admittedly, there is plenty of cyber crime out there, specifically child preditors and con artists. Those sort of things need to be adressed. But how would we address them without sacraficing our own personal freedom and rights to privacy? Just what powers would we give these cyber cops? How could we let them do their job without interfering with respectable people just enjoying their personal freedoms? You know the old joke, "What is an Elephant?......it's a mouse built to government specifications!" You know how the government gets out of hand once they get their toe in the door. It would be very difficult to set up for sure.

Every major policing group in the U.S. has a cyber crimes division. In other words, you're asking if we need something we already have? I'll grant you one guess.
LOL, oh yea isn't that the truth! We have these laws to stop crime and we still have lots of crime, so lets pass lots more laws since it is apparent that the other laws aren't working since we still have crime!!!
When are the idiots in charge going to figure out it doesn't work????
