Hello everyone!

I have think of some domain names which I would like to buy very shortly. I am thinking to buy these names since almost 7-8 months and they are still available, waiting for me to buy them , and the really good thing is that they all have a keyword in the name and all are of two words, so, before I finally decide to go with these names, I would just like to know, how will having keywords in my domain name affect the seo of the site?

Will search engines put my site at higher rankings considering I already have seo optimized content on my site? Specially, will it improve my google search engine ranking?

And, which one should I prefer to do keyword research, wordtracker or keyworddiscover? Which one is more accurate??

yes! keywords in domains are relevant. at the same time, domains sit in what is called a sandbox for a while until the domain is established. also, the more competition a keyword has, the less relevant the domain would be with the keyword in it. relevant backlinks are still king. if you can get about 20 backlinks from relevant and top ranked sites, and create good on site seo, a good page title and description, then worrying about a keyword in a domain is almost pointless except for branding purposes. but i am a big supporter of keywords in domains. i use the adwords keyword tool religiously when i am researching. i rarely use word tracker and keyword discovery since you need to pay for them to get anything usefull out of them.

i wouldn't post your domains in public since people can steal them, but if you shoot me a pm with the domains you have in mind, i can do some quick research and guide you. also, if you can post what your site is going to be about, i might be able to offer ideas so you can collect your mycents on this topic if we can keep this topic active. it's the only reason why i am responding right now. because i know you need the mycents quickly...

Folks at SEO Book and SEO MOZ suggests premium services like keyword spy and spyfu. I prefer spyfu as they have free version as well. Keyword spy has huge database and lots of research pointers than spyfu but it comes with price.

If you are building a brand then domain name hardly matters. You can have names like "quick sprout", "stack overflow" and rank higher on search engines. I have few website names which has nothing to do with the stuff that is going on site but i'm building those site as brand and not for SEO or selling in mind. But if you are building sites solely for the sale in mind then playing with keywords does help.

thanks anwii for your reply.....so you mean to say i will mainly get benefited from having keyword in a domain name only when the keywords has got less competition!
probably creating backlinks that to from top relevant sites is quite difficult task and will more concentrate on it later on....
well you can still help in research without even knowing the names....here are the main keywords that are presented in my shortlisted domain names, the other words in the domain name is just to make it sound nicer and will only disclose them after buying them.....really sorry hope you will not feel bad

1. earn money / ptc [need more help in this name......need to know which keyword will be good to have....the site will be mainly used to promote my ptc sites but have some plans to differentiate my site from other money making blogs or sites, and will work on this project first as the success here will increase my earnings in ptc sites ]

3. hosting [as name suggests, my own hosting business, will start with reseller and if get failed, will be using it to host my other sites]

4. tutorials [ the site will have tutorials of programming languages, html, css, etc.]

and yeah thats true i need mycents, and i think i can collect them before time runs up as for only 7 posts i got $2 mycents

Okay, to answer your question, keywords being in the domain have much less of an effect than most people think. Nearly every top website is #1 for things not at all related to their domain name. Content matters more than anything. Good content keeps visitors and builds backlinks. Good one-way backlinks means more reputation. More reputation means higher SERP's.

Thus it all comes back to content. Whether your domain is full of keywords or has none at all honestly doesn't matter in the long run. It's all about what you do with the site.

yes, content and backlinks is king, but don't every write about how keywords in a domain doesn't influence google's serps. in the long run, if two different websites have similar content and similar backlinks, the one with the keywords in the domain will rank higher. believe THAT. if you want to continue to argue your point how it doesn't matter in the long run, i am ready for a debate.

There's really not that much of a debate. If you honestly deal with SEO on a mass scale then you already know that domains have no noticeable influence. The only time it matters is on a very small site with very little competition.

my dear rpg. domains names have a huge influence buddy. not just with small sites. i think you need to get your information elsewhere from now on or you just might see your website falling in the shadows. but you are correct. it has an influence on small sites too. for instance. when i bought a certain domain last year, i had a few clicks come from search results directly linked to the keywords in my domain. i did no seo or had any backlinks to my site. but some of my visitors were a direct result of the keywords in my domain. if the keywords weren't there, they wouldn't have found the site that really is a worthless piece of crap right now because i did absolutely nothing with it.

you know 10 years ago, this debate was going on and the experts were trying to figure out if a domain has any influence on serps. well it's 10 years later and i have tested many things out my own self first hand and can tell you outright than keywords in domain names DO influence rankings just like your description and title do. to say otherwise is pure ignorance and you are giving false information to users here at knowledge sutra. it really bugs me when i have to read false information when people pretend to know what they are talking about.

Sheesh. Don't make a big deal out of it unless you want to make some big bucks out of your website. If you have keywords, you will likely end up higher in the search engines, but even if you don't -- you can still make it high up there. Use tools like Adwords keyword and SEMrush (my fav) to research about your competitors and make backlinks related to your site. Like if you have site for medicines, try getting a backlink from a hospital locator or something like that.

Ah nice mention. I didn't used SEMrush for quite some time now. It is good software. There is one from microsoft for consumer demand something like that. It was from their adcenter program. Adwords and that microsoft tool together can be a good way to find popularity of the keywords.
