Is anyone familiar with "Smart Engine"? Characteristics shown:

constant "your computer is infected", "by this now to clean your PC"
process ended; program started back somehow
re-enabled proxy (re-disabled)
undetected by REAL antivirus
I purposely corrupted the EXE with "Res. Hacker". After changing a few characters, I deleted a few lines of code. I then saved it. The program then stopped running. After trying to restart it, the EXE was deleted. The shortcuts (one was named "Computer" but ran the EXE instead) was deleted. The most fun I had getting rid of a potential virus.

Good going. Most of us don't have such luck, but you seemed to have the right software and knowledge to stop the virus dead in its tracks. Smart move on your part. My virus detection software has saved my behind 3 times here lately when I got infected e-mails; all were from mailboxes of friends that I recognized or I wouldn't have opened them to begin with. Unfortunately, that means my friends have the viruss on their computers. Posted Image

That the nice trick, but if you face a serious virus attack and there is important data on your drive than you need a virus removal software to protect your PC and the technician help for recovering data.

I found a 4 year old topic on it:

Another option is to completely reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows (or put a different OS on it).
