I had no idea it was so easy to get ad blocking in Opera. I had been waiting for a loooong time for no reason.

Windows users, download https://secure.fanbo...a/urlfilter.ini and save it into

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\...\Application Data\Opera\Opera\
Vista/7: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera\

Linux users, it's simple too.

Open up your favourite terminal emulator, type in:

wget -P ~/.opera/ https://secure.fanbo...a/urlfilter.ini --no-check-certificate

Or just save it to ~/.opera somehow.

BONUS: Add a button to Opera to disable/enable Adblock:

AdBlock Button

Test it out:

http://thepcspy.com/blockadblock/

If you're a linux user, you're also lucky enough to be able to get auto updates easily (Man, linux rocks!)

Edit your cron tab with

crontab -e

add this line:

@daily wget -q -O ~/.opera/urlfilter.ini https://secure.fanbo...a/urlfilter.ini --no-check-certificate

save (if using vim.. type :wq )

I think this works, haven't tested @daily before.

I have noticed one bad thing about adblocking that it blocks some content like forms in many cases. I don't know if this is resolved by adblock plus registry and plugin or add-on owners but i think this is annoying. Some forms are necessary and just because they are from X domain it strps them out from the page. I hope to get such issue resolved in future.

The AdBlock button link didn't work in my post. Oh well. I haven't had any problems with blocked forms, but the content blocker is easily disabled if it causes a problem on a certain webpage.

Content blocker ? I'm kinda confused with this now. Where in the add-on is content blocker ? i'm using firefox for now. do you know where can i configure content blocker for firefox add-on ? i'm in search of such settings so that i can get login form of some websites which is usually blocked by adblock plus.

I'm using Opera's "Content Blocker" (named as such to prevent a bad image) which is an Opera feature with a 3rd party list of things that should be blocked, the same as AdBlock Plus I think. I don't know about Firefox but in Opera you can right click on the page, click "Edit Site Preferences", click "Content" tab and disable Content Blocking for that domain.

Anyway, I made a mistake in my earlier post with the crontab thing (not that anyone noticed):

paste THIS line to your crontab (by typing crontab -e)
@daily wget -q -O /home/rob/.opera/urlfilter.ini https://secure.fanboy.co.nz/opera/urlfilter.ini --no-check-certificate

Because crontab doesn't work with the shell, you _must_ use /home/YOURUSERNAME/ and not the shortcut ~/. Replace rob with your username.

It seems to work now.

opera content blocker is not comparable to adblock plus in firefox. you can disable adblock in firefox with just one click but for disabling the content blocker in opera you should go to options and it hasn't the option for autoblocking or only blocking your desired websites. it can not block some typed of flash medias and the regular update of adblock plus is just astonishing. but anyway the auto block of adblock plus is sometimes annoying like when i was designing my website and i created a folder named ads and put some pictures and files in it and firefox didn't show any of them because it automatically blocks all paths which has ads .

It is comparable, you can disable content blocking with a click of a button on the tab bar (or elsewhere) and mine auto updates in the background with the same lists (I think) as AdBlock+ daily even when opera is not running. I don't know if it's perfect, but it sure works fine for me I don't see any advertisements anymore. I can also disable content blocking on certain domains with a right click.
