This is a thread for people discuss their opinions about who will rise to be the enxt super power of the world, or if at all.
USA as everyone knows is the current world super power but what do you think will happen to it? undoubtably Britain was the worlds greatest super power in history, which eventually declined, so can the same thing happen to the US?
I think a decline of the USA and rise of the economy of China are inevatable, but weither they become a super power is an issue.
Discuss. Don't just post a countries name. Justify your opinion which mature answers. Not some country fanboy reply like " USA r0xors and will rule the world forever!"

According to The Times of India newspaper - one of the most read newspapers in India, China will have a great impact on the world by 2020 and will match USA in every aspects and will overtake Superpower status by 2020 itself.

The finding was none other than the FBI of the USA. The measurement was done according to the strength in various fields - including economy, military, infrastructure, etc. Unlike the era of Britannica in modern's world SIZE of a country matters alot the finding says.

And by 2050 India will overtake it from China. Though USA will continue to have influence to other countries it won't be able to bully around other countries like it does today, the finding also says.

EU is another dominant factor to reckon with, but clubbing many countries under one roof will not have so much strength like a unified one country with the same size of EU like India and China, the finding continues. EU will be in fact pull by its own pressure within and will only be able to maintain only its equilibrium.

So, the next 20 years a very different poticial scenario will emerge in the world.

China may pump its communist propoganda throughout the globe, but without a doubt, the one country that will remain untarnished is LUXEMBOURG. Yes people, LUXEMBOURG. Home to the world's highest GDP per capita, LUXEMBOURG will inevitably rise to the occasion and tame the Big Red with its supernatural abilities. Don't ask questions, just take my word for it!

Yeah. And then Luxembourg will form a SUPERUNION with Andorra, Monaco, Lichtenstein and San Marino! It's so obvious now, I don't understand why I didn't see it before!

Anyway, I think both India and China have good chances of becoming powerful eventually. Both are big countries with lots of people in it, and both are getting more and more economic power.

Definetely India and China will have lasting impacts on the world. India and China both have rapidly growing tech industired (India for example, Google has hired many people from India to work for them.). Thse two countries each have over a billion people in population. A India is projected to have the largest population in the world by 2015. They also nuclear development and nuclear power plants. And adding the population together, they make up 30% of the worlds total populaton.

It is simple people. Keep work in the USA. Stop making other countries rich and strong. Greed is an extreme problem here. US companies continue to outsource. KNOCK IT OFF !!! ASAP before its too late and we all end up paying the ultimate price.

Don't be foolish, China and India will never be Super Power. They are third world countries and will stay like that. Don't forget China export most of their weapons from France and India nuclear program in under british control. so they are still some colonies where you can get cheap labor. Its obvious France and Germany will form one nation, the US, Uk and Canada another. Thus isolating Russia. Russia will become a third world countries in the next coming years since the oil wont have an economic impact no more.

It's seems possible that china may indeed become a super power ,but even if they don't China is a country that we shouldn't ignore.

I'd definitely believe that India could eventually become the world's superpower. There have been several things thay've been working on over there that would re-inforce that theory.

Seeing how India was getting into space exploration it is possible India may become a super power sometime during this century. Things can change quickly ,for example look at how the soviet union rose to power all of a sudden. All it takes is one political change.

I think China and India will rise up...
China might just go a little higher. But India will be still very superpowered.
The main reason is because they are both very rapidly developing countries. China has the most potential because not only do the world's main supply of stuff (i.e. Clothes, toys etc) depend on China. India on the other hand still has potential but not enough.
China and India will beat the other on some subjects though. China might beat India on military power, while india might beat china economically.
Remember, these two countries both have nuclear power, nuclear bombs, and other high tech stuff. China also has the technology to destroy satellites and are already blinding US spy satellites with something. These two countries all have great potential.

I really can't see India rising to the top spot. I suppose it's the cowgirl in me that can't see how anybody could worship cows instead of eating them could make it to the top.

But China? Oh yea, they could be in the running. Especially since they are poisoning all of our dogs and children with toxic chemicals in the cheap garbage they sell us.

The fatc that India will rise up is so far-fetched. They do have the military power, but the political aspect and the fact that that is a breeding ground for pandemics, terrorists, and corrupt leaders. India is out of the question. Britain and the U.S. have a strong relationship. I don't see they combining into one country, but they could become united such as the EU. U.S. will become bankrupt unless they stop trying to be big and bad and try some peacful approach. AND STOP ELECTING BAD LEADERS!. There will be many conflicts in the future. Tension between Russia and the U.S. is the same between Britain and China. China has many exports and populace approval they have a great chance of being a super power. Britain has close to the best special forces next to the navy seals and has an extremely large political influence. Probably over China.I feel in 2020 China will be uo there followed by the EU and then Britain or India

Of all the money we(USA) owe, via the national debt/deficit, etc.... most of that is to China - so in my opinion we're already China's Biatch until we get our finances in order and with the Current dip**** president and administration throwing all our money at wars that nobody supports.

If china were to stop loaning us money, and call in our debts, we'd be royally screwed.

Russia also has been building some new technology that might need to be examined later on.

My fear is an alliance of China + Iran + Russia, that would be extremely bad, and not all that out of the realm of possibilities.

There is only one super power in the world today, and as we all know its USA. However it is growing old and I don't think it will hold that title for much longer, at the same time nigher china nor India have the potential of being a power whom other nations would follow.

They are more based on population than cultural and technological growth therefor will not be able to influence the world. In my opinion the EU has a chance of becoming an ideal Libral/Capitalist model which can take our civilization to the next step. There is also potential within middle east such as Iran and newly born or about to be born nations who are struggling for survival at the moment, but eventually rise to power. Iran is already spreading its influence through out Arabia and as far as India in the east, lately even Turkey as fallen under the spell of Islam. Russia in the north is also getting back in the game. However my bid stays with EU and couple of states that are not yet recognized as nation but have the air of leadership around them. China and India would have been stronger in the industrial age because that was the age of population and the rise of capitalism. However humanity is taking a step into a more libralist age where quality counts over quantity.

Well, determining who will be the next World Super Power depends on a lot of different factors. First in my mind is what is our definition of Super Power? As it stands now we still tend to define Super Power in militaristic terms, with economics as a (relatively) important sidenote. In the future, this may change depending on how the world continues to evolve. Due to the growth of organizations such as the EU and the lessening of militaristic tensions around the world in comparison to the past (alright not exactly, but if you think about it the "War on Terror" is really not that big, if you think of it in terms of previous conflicts it helps put things in perspective), I tend to think that it is quite possible for the economic aspect of Super Powers to take precedence. If that happens we could start to see a huge shift in the world. One often ignored region of the world is South America, and I think that in the future they could play a large part in how the world develops, even if nobody takes them into account at the moment. While the USA is just starting a trend of moving towards a viewpoint with more socialist tendencies (it may not move there, and it's not universal, but there are signs), South America has a history of socialism. Many South American countries are beginning to form trade agreements amongst themselves, and while it may take time, I think that they will eventually develop a working regional economic unit. If the USA is intelligent and fosters cooperation and friendly terms with South America they can prevent themselves from being economically handicapped by their distance from the EU and Asia where developing nations such as China and India are going to start gaining greater footholds in the world economy. My view is that the world is going to eventually become more focused on regional, rather than global trade. Economically it makes sense, and economics tend to be the deciding force for most major changes and evolutions.

Of course, all of this is based on the idea that militaristic might will become increasingly less important, and that different nations and ideologies will be able to coexist with at least civil harmony. If it breaks down into pseudo-coldwar times again than I think that developing nations such as China that haven't developed strong liberal ideals-based societies will have a greater advantage in extending their power as they will not have to convince an electorate to ignore safety and environmental regulations. China has the ability to make things on the cheap, both in an monetary and environmental view. State controlled regulations and a large workforce that has a strong sense of nationalism are what allow a country to quickly gear up and fight. The US had this at one point, but we have given up some of our willingness to work in the nations interest so that we can work in the interests of the world. I don't think this is a bad thing, but it does give nations that are still going through the stages of industrialization an advantage (China, and India to a lesser degree).

Oh, don't forget Japan either. If my first view correct, than Japan's lack of a large military will become insignificant. If they can find a way to deal with the rising age of their population, Japan has some of the most advanced technology in the world. Their work with robotics is amazing, and if the world becomes a more stable economically based environment, advanced technologies are going to be some of the major signs pointing to the world's "Super Powers."

There is no need to talk about it. If they are super power, we have to ask ourself some questions. Reason? We are fighting Iraq that has no impact basically on anything. Now we are trapped there and losing tons of taxpayer's money. Do you expect that type of government is healthy for economy? Also just wanna comment on our education. I think we are pumping violence sex into teens too much. That won't help either.

China...were already in debt over our heads to them
The Next World Super Power?

They've outsourced such cheap work to up but we have to buy in bulk...And its horrible quality **** that costs pennies to make yet we pay a fortune...So outsourced jobs made less work here creating a complete crash of our economy and conveniently or war in iraq is creating a bigger debt...Thank mr bush(s)...By the way were in debt to china.

They've just invaded Tibet and are due to host the upcoming Olympics.

Perfect time to show off the results of their very strict military training from a young age...Sound familiar-hitler olympics...Its not so long ago that the last emperor was removed militarily...China is still a waring nation and a force to be reckoned with .

Superpower wont exist
The Next World Super Power?

If the world is still here in 20 years the US will still have the title. The only reason China is coming up is because of the US and other countries sell out their people to get sh&% made in a 3rd world country. China is still 20 years behind becoming anything and they are too bothered by taking over Tibet and Taiwan they forget about their goal and piss other nations off. The truth is before there is another superpower nukes will start flying because of mans stupidity for power. This land is my land but I want your land too.

I am just hoping that NASA finds us a back-up place to live soon.

P.S. The worst US president of all time is Bush. Thank God he got elected again and maxed out his term. Goodbye to Bush forever. Now, can I get a hell yeah!

China and India must tread more lightly than they have so far.
The Next World Super Power?

It seems that China and/or India are far too volatile and unbecoming to become the next superpower/s it would seem more appropriate if the next nation or continent to hold the world superpower title be the european union it seems, unlike China or India to have a remarkable high standard of law and justice, also it has not been influenced by outside sources nearly as much as the two asiatic contenders it seems to be more reasonable, organised and far-sighted view as a wonderful website once said the you.S.A is a caravan yet Europe is a citadel.

"A citadel is a solid, permanent building, a fortress designed to survive any crisis and protect those within it from all the dangers outside. It is a permanent dwelling. A caravan is constantly moving, seeking new horizons, leaving the past behind."

It would seem that after the two most horrific events in the twentieth century that europe that formed the EU soon after the war would after so long be ready to take on the world and restore sensibility to the masses.
China and India seem to resemble the american caravan more than the citadel China especially since it should be apparent that unless they are more careful what happened to Russia will happen to them, and it isnt exactly like the chinese were unwilling when they found that the Imperial family and Imperial justice were unruly to abolish them as soon as possible. India besides the fact that it relies heavily on europe (not so much America) would be the more likely contender if one thinks about it rationally. If one looks at the dominating empires they always have a relatively high standard of living compared to the other nations they always have a strong economic background of the preious twenty years at the least and a relatively decent justice system. China and India simply because of land size and population are not as likely to become the next as europe is. Europe will reign again as the supreme power. Preservation and remembrance of ones past mistake swill prove far more valuable than any amount of underpaid workers or drive for absolute power. The Chinese and Indians must tread far more carefully than they have so far if they wish to succeed in there goal of world dominance.
