I have used Window XP for one year.I find its functions are much better than Window 98.Many functions are newer, faster and better than before.I like Window XP very much.

Well, i think that if you compare XP to other M$ products then yeah, its probably their best OS, but, linux is way better, at least from my point of view, and ive only been using it for the past 4 or 5 months, no crashes or anything.
I hate when XP crashes, with that blue screen, or lately it hasent been shuting down well, so its just not very good with me. Maybe its different with you but, not with me.

The new computer is given by my mother's friend,so we don't need to spend money to buy it.

I feel happy because I can use a better computer when compared the old computer.

Linux is way better, and yes XP is M$'s best OS, not that that is saying much. As for Aaron's comment that it is more prone to viruses, I think that depends on what your are comparing it to. A M$ OS is naturally more prone to viruses since it is by far the most used operating system, so naturally more coders are trying to break it. Dispite this XP would rank fairly high in the pecking order though, because it has a number of security flaws, but again I say what are you comparing it to, to other OS manufacturers products, yes, to other M$ products, no. The whole windows family (including the server editions) has been riddled with security flaws wich made it easy to exploit, the longer a product is on the market the more patches they can release and the more holes they can patch, so thus right now it looks like XP has more problems than say 98 but compare it to 98 fist edition and I think you would have a different story. But dispite this there are still many problems that were in 98 that they were supposed to have fixed in xp, so perhaps the trade off is worth while?

Yeah I like Windows XP. People saying "windows is the worst blablabla" is just dumb. Of course, there are many viruses - that's because there are many users, and there are many bugs - because they just upgrade a very old system into something newer all the time, of course it's buggy.

Yeah I would like Xp too, the clean GUI makes it easier to use than windows98 and things like that, but some of the features are rather annoying. I have been looking for linux for ages, I got it on a disk a few months back, but I lost the disk... Hey, this is kinda off topic, but, can you install linux and windows xp on the same computer? My friend has windows 98 and xp professional on the same machine, and he uses 98 for the internet and work, and xp for games and stuff. Just wondering.

Yes you can have a dual-boot system running both windows and linux. Linux would have its own partition on the hard drive however, xp couldn't read it, and it works the other way around too. Kinda tricky to install I think, actually I was planning on doing it, but I never got around to it.

I do enjoy XP. Even though I have had some little problems with it I can't complain too much because they were so simple to fix it wasn't even a worry.

i use win xp now.
first time using it after some years using win98se, i feel there was a significant speed when browsing internet. and sure it has more powerful multi asking than before. but the bad thing is there are many "hole" that make inviting some internet virus in. im sure some people experienced 1 minute rebooting! without any interuptions possibility from user. fortunately there are some patch for sealing/masking the holes.
i like win xp just for client but mostly like unix/linux for server.. :)

Quick fix for that, right-click on desktop, properties, appearance, windows and buttons pull down menu thing, windows classic stlye. I personally use the silver version of the xp one, but I HATE that green start button. That one thing ruins it all for me.

I DO like Windows XP, but I think that it's a little too easy to use. For some reason (Don't know why), I like things that are a little harder/more complex to do, on a computer at least. I also liked the Folder Customizing in Windows 98, where you could use and HTML Template to cusomize, so that's something about 98 I like better. There's other things I like better about 98, but I like XP because of it's speed, and works better with hardware. There's also many other reasons why I like XP (I don't like all the security flaws it has, though...took a lot of time updating to get the second Service Pack).

The driver issues with xp were insane.

And yes, it is too user-friendly. If that's what you call a search dog (I want to shoot the stupid thing, but fortunately I can choose not to see it.) and a beginners-oriented interface.

I enjoy using XP conpared to my laptop with Windows 98... Is more user friendly, and easier to use overall. Windows 98 is very buggy and freezes or locks up very, I mean verry easily. Out of Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, I perfer 2000. It has less system requirements so if you have a low-ended PC, it will run better than XP. :)

did you have 98 1st or 2nd edition? 1st wasn't so good, but the second one was pretty good.

Oh no, I hate XP. In fact, it uses too much RAM and CPU. But of cause u can launch it on 500MHz Pentium III, but anyway you need a much faster machine.
I think that Windos XP is for users, not for those who use computer only for pleasure and not for them who want their software and programm be safe. There are a lot of wholes in Windows XP and so it can be hacked easily. For me Windows XP is bad Windows 2000 with graphics and worse defianse. And people who buy Windows XP are just users who like beutiful pictures on their screen.

I dont mind using XP. After when you turn off the many un needed services, windows xp turns out to be a good, reliable opertaing system.

I dont reall have a comment about it......I truly like how easy it is and how simple accessing everything is but really prefer linux due to its different functions and stuff...But out of all of the past windows distros....Xp has made its mark due to its amazing swiftness and not many snags other than constant viruses and trojans and hacks that have gotten out of hand....I just think alot of other problems have arrisen and caused many government issues to arrise....The whole Piracy stuff has causes a big issue with windows by how it is so easy to just copy it and run it....Also I would like to comment on its crack on this situation though which is causing those who cant afford a decent OS cannot obtain it unless they rob a bank to get the money for it hahaha....I dunno but no comment here :-\

Well XP its alright compared to some of Microsoft's old operating systems' features.

Example:

Anti-XP: The new XP visual themes can't be edited at all. You'll need either change a system DLL or get a third party application that can change the visual style. In 98? Pfft, plain, simple (I mean that as a plus) and EDITABLE.

Pro-XP: Paint can save in JPEG. Might sound kinda stupid, but I like that.

Indeed. XP Uses many resources. In order to boost your system you'll need to install the PRO version and turn off unwanted services (google "windows xp services removal guide"). If you're going to do the last one mentioned, please use System Restore before you touch anything at all.

I enjoy it I geuss, I like it more than the other versions of Windows, and stay with Windows because Windows has much more program compatability, but I like Linux more because it's fast and powerful, I've wanted to put it on my PC, but I know it would make my mom mad.

Its definately easier to use, I tried out Linux a while back and had such a headache messing about with the fonts, not sure it compares today but back then, it took alot of work to get screen fonts to look sharp and crisp, I took XP and windows for granted, they make life so easy we forget stuff like there font technology and ease of use, mind you though, this easeness comes at a price (vulnerability), my linux box always felt secure!
