Best Smartphone Gps Navigation

05 February 2012 - 02:51 PM

Which smartphone app is the best for GPS navigation (driving only)? You may want to consider whether the software is free, whether data connection is required on the road, whether a lot of disk space is required to save the maps, how accurate the maps are, and so on.

Navfree is completely free, but the open street maps it uses are not detailed enough to always take you to the right place.

Google Map Navigation requires data connection. However, you can avoid or minimize using data connection on the road if you pre-download pieces of maps (20x20 square miles each) prior to your trip using WIFI.

AndNav2 and Mapquest required data connection to me while Sygic is a paid service.

How To Extend Life Of A Computer?

23 October 2011 - 12:08 AM

I bought an HP desktop computer with an LG LCD monitor four years ago. It came with original Windows Vista Home Premium operating system. Over the last few months, I have noticed some problems once in a while. Sometimes, the images displayed would be completely scrambled and then the screen become dark. I would then have to force the computer to shut down by pressing the power button for several seconds. Then, the monitor died and I had to buy a new one. But, not long afterwards, the computer died also; i.e., only the power would come on and the fans would turn but nothing else.

When I opened the box and examined the inside of it, I found that a lot of dust had been collected in the box. The fan on top of the CPU had quite some amount of dust on it. When I looked through the fan from the top down, I could see some dust collected in the metal radiator sitting between the CPU and the fan. I got the sense that maybe the dust slowed down the cooling of the CPU and eventually let the CPU to overheat and die.

It's only 4 year old. I wonder if I had removed the dust from inside the box maybe once a year, would that have prevented the premature death of the computer?

What Does Economy+ Mean To You?

22 June 2011 - 12:56 PM

I have flown United Airlines before and have noticed they offer Economy Plus seats. Recently, I have had an opportunity to sit in an economy plus seat because I was re-routed. One of the things I noticed is that the leg room is indeed much wider than a regular economy seat, which is pretty good for a long flight. I don't know how many people sitting in Economy Plus seats actually have paid for the upgrades. Maybe quite some percentage, but I did not think that was a big number. If not sold, the seats are assigned by United Airlines to their frequent flyers. Guess who frequent flyers are? They are mostly business travellers. So, I also noticed that a lot of business people sit in Economy Plus seats. Hope you get the idea.
